At JSM Group, Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) are at the heart of everything we do. As we continue to expand, we are looking for a Head of SHEQ – UK Operations to lead our SHEQ strategy, drive compliance, and enhance operational safety standards across the business.
SCOPE OF ROLE
As the Head of SHEQ – UK Operations, you will act as the primary point of contact for all SHEQ-related matters across the UK, working closely with operational leadership, employees, contractors, clients, and regulators. You will lead a growing team of SHEQ professionals, develop and execute an annual SHEQ plan, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen safety, compliance, and risk management across the organisation.
HOW YOU'LL SUCCEED
1. Leading the UK SHEQ Teams, ensuring alignment with company values and operational objectives.
2. Developing and implementing SHEQ strategy, working closely with the SHEQ Director.
3. Providing independent assurance and expert guidance on SHEQ compliance and best practices.
4. Managing SHEQ resources effectively, balancing permanent and temporary staffing needs.
5. Supporting incident investigations, identifying root causes, and implementing preventative measures.
6. Ensuring adherence to ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 certifications, simplifying processes where possible.
7. Driving proactive safety reporting, promoting near miss and hazard reporting across the business.
8. Establishing strong client relationships, representing JSM’s SHEQ functions in business development activities.
9. Overseeing the digitisation of SHEQ processes, improving efficiency and compliance monitoring.
10. Deputising for the SHEQ Director where required and supporting key strategic initiatives.
WHAT IT TAKES
1. Extensive experience in a SHEQ leadership role within utilities, engineering, or a similar environment.
2. Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders and present confidently.
3. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to risk management.
4. In-depth knowledge of NRSWA, HSG47, ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001.
5. Proven experience leading SHEQ improvement projects and cultural change initiatives.
6. A dynamic, pragmatic, and assertive leadership style, able to work independently and within a team.
7. Strong organisational skills, with a keen eye for detail and a structured approach to SHEQ processes.
8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with SHEQ-related software systems.
Essential Qualifications:
Degree in a relevant discipline.
NEBOSH Diploma or Level 6/7 SHEQ qualification.
Chartered IOSH Membership.
Extensive line management experience.
Knowledge of Behavioural Based Safety or Human Factors.
ISO Lead Auditor certification (desirable).
Formal Lean or Six Sigma qualification (desirable).
