Apprentice Design Manager

Background
We are currently looking for an Apprentice Design Manager to complement and support our strong pre-construction team. You will be enrolled onto a Level 4 Apprenticeship - Construction Design and Build Technician.
This exciting opportunity will give you the opportunity to learn and earn as we support you in developing your career path. The role will be based in our Norwich office, covering the working area of Norfolk.
The role is generally office-based but there is the opportunity to work onsite. The successful candidate will be joining a strong dedicated group supported by our in-house design (architectural, structural, and civils) consultancy office. The successful candidate will be joining one of the largest family-run construction businesses dealing with a diverse range of interesting and challenging projects across multiple sectors.

Key Responsibilities
* As an apprentice, you will work towards:
* Pre-Construction
* Understanding the design brief
* Support value engineering and value creation reviews and work closely with the estimating and commercial team
* Review of enquiry documents, usually in the form of an Employer’s Requirements
* Support the Senior Design Manager in managing the design process via external consultants
* Close liaison with internal departments ensuring programming and cost management are aligned with design development
* Support the Senior Design Manager in managing the progress of design issues within a strict timescale & ensure designers meet information delivery dates. Assist in design deliverables and Information Required Schedules
* Attend design meetings & support construction teams where required
* Attend and input into risk meetings
* Support the Senior Design Manager in reviewing design team and subcontractor design proposals, overmarking (red penning) and commenting on design and construction issues
* Verify & control status of consultants and subcontractors drawings and specifications & maintain registers
* Construction Stages
* Support the Senior Design Manager in producing and monitoring the design procurement programme / information release schedule
* Maintain a drawing and specification register as designs develop
* Monitor any design issues on the project risk register
* Monitor the information release schedule to ensure this matches the construction programme
* Attend design meetings & support construction teams where required
* Ensure designers and design subcontractors produce as-built information and O and M Manuals in sufficient time towards project completion.
Key Skills & Knowledge
* Good organisation skills and work ethic
* Computer skills – need to be proficient in Microsoft Office packages and will be provided training on job-specific software including document management systems
* 64 UCAS points or equivalent
* GCSE Grade 4 (or C) above in Maths and English or equivalent qualification
* Applicants must be 18 or over
* Must have the right to work in the UK
* Excellent spoken and written English
* A good ‘team player’, able to work independently and as part of a team
* Good communication, presentation, and diplomacy skills
* A clean driving license and be prepared to travel throughout our operating area
