Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) is the biggest employer in Nottingham with over 19,000 staff
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is looking to appoint two Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologists. The appointees will undertake a range of peripheral neurophysiological investigations on both adult and paediatric patients including single fibre EMG. They will also report a wide range of electroencephalographic studies including ambulatory and long-term monitoring studies on both adult and paediatric patients. Clinical Neurophysiology at NUH also has an orthopaedic (spinal) intraoperative monitoring service, a very busy paediatric polysomnography practice, and cerebral function monitoring on both adult and paediatric intensive care units. There is ample opportunity for appointees to develop and expand their own interests. Experience of paediatric neurophysiology would be advantageous as approximately 50% of the EEG referrals are from paediatricians and paediatric neurology. Similarly, experience of paediatric peripheral neurophysiology will also be very useful.
Clinical Neurophysiology at NUH is committed to the development of its scientist and practitioner workforce, with several consultant and trainee consultant scientists in post that support the medical workload. A commitment to continuing this training and support would be required plus training and development support for other staff in the department.
We are pleased to be able to offer recruitment incentives of £10,000 per employee plus relocation expenses of up to £6,000 (terms and conditions apply).
Main duties of the job
These jobs are advertised as 10 PAs. Candidates wishing to apply for less than 10 PAs will be considered. The jobs require being on call one in four weekends between the hours of 0900 and 1700 to report urgent EEGs performed between these hours. On-call cover is also required for bank holidays. EEG reporting can be performed remotely and will not require travel to the hospital. Shared office accommodation will be provided with limited administrative support. The department cannot support audio typing but sufficient administrative time will be provided in DCCs. 2.5 PAs are available for mandatory training, appraisal, CPD, audit, governance, job planning, and teaching and training. 1.0 SPA is specifically for support of consultant and trainee consultant scientists. The Trust has arrangements to ensure that all surgeons have annual job planning sessions, appraisal with trained appraisers, and support for the revalidation process. The Trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development as laid down by the GMC and medical colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities. The Care Group will support the new consultants in identifying appropriate mentors.
