An exciting opportunity to join the Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust as a Specialty Doctor/Post-CCT fellow with a special interest in Elective and Emergency Gynaecology. We are looking to recruit a post CCT fellow to complete our staff of 16 Consultants, 4 post CCT fellows, 14 Specialist Registrars/Trust Clinical Fellows and 16 SHO/FY2/ Junior clinical fellow doctors. We are looking for the postholder to start in April 2025.
Main duties of the job
This post will ideally suit a candidate who is either post-CCT or within 12 months of achieving entry onto the Specialist Register, and who has at least four years’ experience at registrar level within the NHS. Working for our organisation
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is a busy and innovative department. The Obstetric unit has approximately 6000 deliveries per annum with a high proportion of high risk cases. The Delivery Suite is supported by a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and as such, attracts a large number of in utero transfers. We have a tertiary referral Fetal Medicine Unit with 4 Consultants and 3 specialist midwives. Within Gynaecology there are specialist clinics in the following areas: endometriosis, colposcopy, infertility, urogynaecology, vulval disease, perineal clinic, acute gynaecology, out-patient hysteroscopy and early pregnancy. There are 5 Consultants with an interest in minimal access surgery. There are also 3 fertility consultants who contribute to the gynaecology services. We have specialist joint maternal medicine clinics with neurologist, rheumatologist, endocrinologist, haematologist, gastroenterologist and cardiologist. We also work closely with perinatal psychiatrist as we have a Mother and Baby Unit on site.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The 4 Specialty Doctors/ Post-CCT fellows work a 1 in 4 full shift rota to provide Senior Registrar cover at night, working alongside another registrar and 2 SHOs (the on-call consultant is non-resident after 2200 hrs). This is done by doing a fixed weekday night every week and a Friday-Sunday weekend set of nights every month.
The post is offered on a full-time basis on a 12 PA (Programmed Activity) Specialty Doctor/ SAS contract (2021). The contract will be reviewed after 12 months or sooner to ensure that the sessional commitments reflect the needs of the service.
Person specification
Qualifications
* On GMC’s specialist register or a Specialist Registrar who is within 12 months of being admitted to the GMC’s specialist register
* MRCOG
Experience
* 4 years’ experience at Registrar-grade level in the NHS
* ST7 competencies or equivalent experience
* ATSM in Advanced Labour Ward
* ATSM in Early Pregnancy & Acute Gynaecology OR ATSM in Benign Abdominal Surgery (Open and Laparoscopic)
Clinical Skills
* Delivery Suite skills in a high risk setting and ability to deal with emergency gynaecology cases
* Ability to deal with emergency gynaecology theatre cases independently
* Ability to make and implement management plans in an elective gynaecological setting
* Competent at outpatient hysteroscopy
Audit and Research
* Clinical Audit Experience
* Understanding of principles and application of clinical research
Clinical Governance
* Ability to maintain high quality clinical records.
* Evidence of effective quality improvement and clinical risk management
* Knowledge of NHS Clinical Governance Framework
Teaching Skills and Experience
* Experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
Communication
* Ability to communicate with clarity in written and spoken English.
