Our Geoscience team:
Venterra’s Geoscience team is made up of market-leading experts from Ordtek, GDG, and Partrac. We offer unparalleled site characterisation, geoscience management, sediment processes, UXO management, and GIS and data services, tailored to meet the comprehensive needs of our clients.
Role Description:
We are looking for an experienced Senior Geophysicist to join our dynamic team within the Venterra Geoscience service line at Ordtek. Based in our Hethel, Norwich or Hamburg office, this key role focuses on supporting offshore wind development projects by delivering high-quality geophysical data and interpretations. You will ensure that project deliverables meet quality standards while adhering to budget, timeline, and resource guidelines. We offer hybrid working, with employees spending three days per week in the office, providing flexibility and promoting work-life balance.
Key Responsibilities:
* Critically evaluate tender documents on behalf of client.
* Contribute to the review of survey contractors project execution plan (PEP and supporting documents) before on-site activities commence.
* Design and review scopes of work for offshore surveys.
* Be active in managing survey contractors and client representatives to ensure the delivery of high-quality data.
* Attend site and kick-off meetings where required.
* Communicate the results of any survey in a clear fashion to the team, clients, senior managers, or partners, including those with a limited understanding of geoscience. This includes presenting findings at meetings and presentations.
* Quality check and provide chartable deliverables to produce charts and reports.
* Interpret geophysical datasets (magnetometer, side scan sonar, multibeam echosounder) as part of a wider team and identify seabed hazards.
* Process/reprocess magnetometer data from raw using Oasis Montaj.
* Critically appraise existing geophysical datasets and assess usability against project requirements.
* Provide comment on data collection techniques and improve existing techniques in data acquisition and processing.
* Keep abreast of new and emerging technologies and methodologies.
* Provide clear leadership and task coordination within the team, assigning responsibilities that play to individual strengths.
* Provide support, technical advice, and guidance to the team.
* Oversee the production of and contribute to technical reporting, leading teams to deliver thorough and comprehensive project documentation.
Key Skills/Experience/Competencies:
* A minimum of five years of relevant work experience in marine geophysical campaigns. This experience should include expertise in marine data acquisition and processing techniques, specifically side scan sonar and magnetometer datasets, as well as an understanding of multibeam and geotechnical data.
* Demonstratable experience in Oasis Montaj in relative to UXO related surveys.
* Understanding of the offshore energy industry, and its needs.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
* Proven experience in managing and ensuring data quality.
* Ability to work autonomously.
Education/Qualifications:
* Degree in Geophysics, Geology, Geoscience, or another relevant field.
* Desired Masters in Geophysics, Geology, Geoscience, or another relevant field.
Additional Requirements:
* Experience with Python scripting and automation.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Mentoring and coaching skills.
* Willing and able to travel as required.
