We are delighted to invite candidates to apply to work with us in this dynamic and expanding General Surgery Department in a beautiful area of Yorkshire.
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and forward thinking UGI surgeon to this post, who will work well within the team to develop high quality regional and national services. The team comprises of 20 General and GI surgeons with specialty interests including benign UGI surgery, colorectal benign and cancer surgery and complex abdominal wall reconstruction.
The post is based at York Hospital and covers work across associated hospital sites.
The candidate will work within the GI on-call rota. We are looking for the successful candidate to provide specialism and develop of benign Upper GI. This could be in an area of benign GI surgery such as function GI surgery, biliary disease, bariatrics etc. Expertise in another areas of general surgery, such as abdominal wall reconstruction or emergency general surgery, would also be looked at favorably.
Candidates will contribute to the General Surgery on-call rota at York and Scarborough Hospitals.
Candidates must be on the GMC Specialist Register for General Surgery or be within Six months of obtaining the CCT or have passed the FRCS Exit Exam at the time of interview.
Main duties of the job
PRINCIPAL DUTIES OF THE POST
The principle duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients within the trust area.
1. To, at all times, comply with the GMC requirements of Duties of a Doctor
2. To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
3. To undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in agreement with your clinical director.
4. To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of any Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.
5. On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust’s Corporate Induction.
6. To participate in the Trust’s statutory and mandatory training programme
7. To fully participate in the Consultant Peer Support Scheme and ensure personal attendance, when invited, at the Consultant Development Programme during your first year in post.
8. To be responsible for the clinical management of in and out patients under your care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The department and Trust both offer a welcoming and dynamic working environment, with opportunities to participate in teaching medical students from the Hull York Medical School (HYMS). The General Surgery department also organises teaching for post-graduate surgeons and run regular simulation, wet lab, cadaveric, endoscopy courses and region surgical meetings and forums.
