A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse post on the Acute Cardiac Unit.
Acute Cardiac is a busy and dynamic 14 bedded unit comprising of 8 centrally monitored and 6 telemetry beds. Our remit is wide and expanding, covering Primary PCI, Myocardial Infarction, heart failure, pacing and arrhythmia management.
The post is part-time, 0.5WTE (18.75hrs) and will complement the existing 0.5WTE band. You will need good clinical skills and a flexible approach, including excellent team working, communication, organisational and time management skills.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have continuing responsibility for and provide effective nursing leadership to a team of nurses working within the 14 bedded Acute Cardiac Unit. In addition, the post holder will be required to work closely with the multi-disciplinary team in the provision of a high standard individualised patient care thus improving the patient experience.
The position encompasses a supervisory role in addition to the management of operational issues and the provision of expert health advice. Additionally, this will incorporate the provision of care to patients, their families and carers in accordance with the philosophy and standards of care within the area, ensuring that values and beliefs are upheld.
You will demonstrate continuing professional development, reflecting individual needs, the needs of the team and the needs of the organisation.
Job responsibilities
* Effectively lead and monitor the delivery of care to ensure the individual needs of the patients are met.
* Work seamlessly with the existing Band 7 to meet all KPIs and quality measures.
* Promote and lead the development, implementation and review of standards, policies, procedures and clinical guidelines.
* Work clinically where needed, providing care for patients and acting as a role model.
* Act as a role model promoting and demonstrating the standards of care expected and challenging poor practice.
* Effectively lead and motivate staff in the provision of care and future service development.
* Promote evidence based clinical practice and be responsible for continuous performance within the Acute Cardiac Unit.
* Ensure clinical governance encompasses quality improvement that focuses on the fundamentals of care.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree in nursing or willingness to undertake study at this level
* Relevant post graduate course in cardiology, cardiothoracic nursing or coronary care
* ECG interpretation training
* A management or leadership qualification
* ALS instructor
Experience
* Significant experience of working within a Cardiology setting
* Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
* Demonstrates sound understanding of personal accountability
* Works well under pressure
* Experience of project management
