Job summary
Our staff will be providing personal, practical and/or social support to adults in the community, mostly in their own homes. The clients may be elderly or may be recently discharged from hospital, and possibly may have one or more of the following: learning disability, autism, mental health issues, physical disability, sensory impairment and dementia
All staff will be trained, and will work as a member of a team being lead by one of our Senior Nurse Managers. This means that they will be supervised as needed and will have the nurse as a mentor
Our Health Care Assistants / Flexible Workers will be assisting our clients with tasks such as the following and helping them with activities of their choice to help them to live as fully and independently as possible. This list is not exhaustive
Assistance with eating and drinking
Bathing and all personal care as required
Toileting
Dressing and undressing
Getting in and out of bed
Managing personal laundry and ironing
Shopping, menu planning, preparing and cooking meals, diet monitoring
Prompting administrating of medication and the collection of medications
Support to attend medical appointments
Money management - household bills
Reading books or newspapers, writing and dealing with correspondence
Keeping in contact with the client's family and friends
Walking and exercise
Pet care
Companionship and conversation
Accompanying clients to social events and religious services
Supporting with days out or for short breaks.
Sleeping in as required
Household tasks - cleaning, plant care and gardening
Dealing with maintenance, repairs and home security
Key Responsibilities
Communication
o Communicate effectively with clients, recognising the need for alternative methods of communication to overcome different levels of understanding, cultural background and preferred ways of communicating
o Communicate and give information in ways that the client can understand
o Anticipate barriers to communication and take action to improve communication
o Act as an advocate when representing clients
o Listen to the client and pass on their wishes to the management team
o Ensure effective communication between colleagues, other professionals, client's friends, family or other people associated with the client
Delivering a quality service
o Demonstrate a client-centred approach
o Treat individuals with dignity and respect
o Support the client with any personal care and health needs in a way that is compassionate, sensitive, respectful and which upholds that the protection of dignity is paramount
o Ensure all care has been agreed with the client in accordance with the care plan

o Prioritise, organise and manage own workload in a manner that maintains and promotes quality
o Ensure the client's safety and that of others and self
o Adhere to the reporting of incidents, accidents and near misses in accordance with Olive Tree Services policies
o Understand and apply Olive Tree Services Safeguarding policy which supports the identification of vulnerable and abused adults, being aware of statutory vulnerable adult health procedure and local guidance
o Evaluating the quality of one's own work and that of the team, implementing improvements where required
o Participate in shared learning across the company from time to time

Management of risk
o Monitor work areas and practices to ensure they are safe and free from hazards
o Comply with health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines, and any control measures in place
o Apply infection-control and food hygiene measures within the home environment
o Undertake risk assessments as needed under the supervision of the manager
Utilising information
Use technology and appropriate software packages as an aid to the presenting and communicating of information relating to the planning, implementation and monitoring of care
Understand the responsibility of self and others regarding the Data Protection Act, and the importance of confidentiality
Learning and development
Identify own learning needs and undertake training as appropriate
Disseminate learning and information to other team members in order to share good practice and inform others about current and future developments (e.g. courses and conferences)
Assist with the inducting, coaching and mentoring of new staff
