About us
Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the major provider of hospital services to the population of North and mid Hampshire and surrounding areas. The hospitals in Basingstoke and Winchester provide a comprehensive range of acute services as well as being a tertiary referral centre for colorectal, liver, peritoneal carcinomatosis, haemophilia, and pseudomyxoma surgery. Emergency urology is delivered at this site under a consultant of the week model. Elective and diagnostic urology take place in outpatients, theatres, and endoscopy. There are 8 theatres and a critical care unit. In addition, there are two gynaecology theatres.
The consultant of the week is supported by a resident doctor equivalent to a registrar and a number of foundation year trainees. The department responds to 100% of advice and guidance requests from GP colleagues within 48 hrs and this duty lies with the consultant of the week.
Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital (BNHH)
Elective and diagnostic urology is delivered at BNHH. There is an emergency department at this site and on occasion support for emergency patients following discussion with the duty consultant may be required.
BNHH also hosts the nationally commissioned pseudomyxoma service. The nature of that disease means that urological input is frequently required and whilst much of this is pre-planned there can also be unplanned requirements for urological input.
