The Pharmacy Homecare Team at Leighton Hospital is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed Band 4 Pharmacy Technician to join us in delivering a first-class service within patient care. The Homecare Service facilitates the supply of high-cost biologic medicines to over 1500 patients. With an increasing number of new medicines becoming available, the Service is continuing to rapidly grow and expand into new areas. The Homecare Team also supports the IV at Home Service, enabling patients to have their intravenous antibiotics administered within their own home. Both services will enable the post holder to work collaboratively with a variety of different people throughout their day and observe how patients can be treated at home both safely and effectively.
Your role will include coordination of homecare prescriptions, liaising with other healthcare professionals/homecare companies/patients, processing of homecare invoices, dispensing and accuracy checking medication, and ensuring timely supply of medication. Main duties include processing homecare prescriptions and invoices, dispensing and checking IV at Home medication, and communicating with pharmacy staff and the wider hospital including the finance department and clinical teams. Assisting the Hospital Pharmacy Dispensary through dispensing prescriptions as necessary.
We ask that you have an NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services for this role and a good level of experience of IT software, in particular good Excel spreadsheet skills and Pharmacy IT systems. If you do not currently have an accuracy checking qualification as part of your NVQ Level 3, this can be offered to enable you to achieve this, alongside courses in IT skills if required.
* Level 3 Pharmacy standard, or equivalent (or anticipated to complete the qualification in the next 3 months)
* To be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (or anticipated to register with the GPhC in the next 3 months)
* Accuracy checking qualification (or willingness to complete)
* Good keyboard skills.
A flexible approach to the above duties is required, together with good communication and interpersonal skills. You should have the ability to prioritise your workload, be proactive, and work as part of a team with other healthcare professionals, work on your own when necessary, and follow instructions. Candidates should be patient-focused and keen to learn, be hardworking, and able to work under pressure during busy periods. Experience of working in Homecare services would be an advantage but is not essential. Successful candidates will work as a member of the pharmacy team in delivering high quality, safe, and effective pharmacy services in accordance with the Trust's values and behaviours.
