Apprentice Technician (Multi Skilled) Modern Engineering Apprenticeship Salary Year 1 £13,708 by year 4 £34,828 Location: Galloway Hydro Power Station Closing date: 31st March 2025 At Drax we believe in developing the skills of our employees and we recognise the contribution that apprentices can make to a business, that is why we invest in a 4-year modern apprenticeship program. You’ll spend the first-year training at our training provider, East Kilbride Group Training Association in Glasgow, Monday to Friday. We’ll provide the transport or cost of transport to get you there and back each week and a nice place to stay when you’re there so you can focus on your studies. Here you’ll start your Modern Apprenticeship in Engineering. You’ll then spend the next 3 years working at Glenlee Power Station learning from experienced Technicians, Shift Operators and Engineers By the end of the 4 years, you’ll come out with an SVQ level 3 in Engineering Maintenance and a NC in Engineering. About the Role There’s no such thing as a typical day as an Apprentice as it’ll vary depending on what year you’re in, and what team you’re working with. But, to give you a bit of an idea you can expect to provide maintenance on Drax mechanical, electrical or control and instrumentation bits of our plant. Then next you might be learning to read and interpret technical drawings to make sure you’re fixing the right bit of kit. Ultimately, you’ll be learning to be responsible and accountable for the plant, and its equipment and systems. But that’s not all, you’ll also be learning to solve problems safely, logically, quickly, and confidently. Further training and development is a key part of your career journey at Drax as well, and this comes in many forms such as on the job training, working at different sites, or further qualifications. You’ll be joining a large team of experienced production, operational and engineering colleagues. So, you’ll get all the knowledge of our highly skilled long serving colleagues, alongside all the advice, friendship, and support of your Apprentice peers. There will also be opportunities for short secondments to other power stations within the Drax group. What we’re looking for … You’ll need (or be predicted to achieve) a minimum National 5 grades C and above in English, Maths, a Technical subject and a Science subject. (You’ll need to prove these before you start so make sure you keep your certificates handy). As well as getting the right grades, we’ll also be looking for candidates with good communication skills who can work as part of a team.
