Job Title: Project Manager
Reporting to: Operations Director
Depot: Podington
THE ROLE
Working as part of the operations team, you will have overall responsibility for the management of a number of projects on the National Highways Scheme Delivery Framework across the South East and East of England. You will be accountable for the successful end-to-end delivery process, ensuring projects are completed to a high standard of quality, delivered safely, and within budget.
You will be primarily based in our head office in Northamptonshire but will need to travel across the South East and East regions depending on the needs of the Framework.
Key Responsibilities
1. Specific responsibility for the management of our National Highways Scheme delivery Framework in the East and South East regions for street lighting.
2. Responsible for the management of a programme of works having overall accountability for health, safety, environment, quality, and budget control.
3. Driving programme delivery to the required outputs; you will manage a team of people to ensure productivity is achieved safely and to the specification.
4. Working with other Operations Leads and Contracts Managers to manage the day-to-day organisation of resources against programmed works.
5. Creating a positive team culture and environment within the operations team, being empowered to challenge undesired behaviours.
6. Development of safe systems of work and ensuring the site teams are working in accordance with our company governance.
7. Responsible for quality management, development of testing inspections plans, ensuring the quality plan is implemented on site, and records are captured to demonstrate compliance with the specification and for input into the health and safety file.
8. Working with procurement to ensure material approvals have been gained by the client and orders are placed to meet the required timescales.
9. As an effective leader, you will mentor junior members of the team and may have line management responsibilities for contract leads and teams within the direct workforce, including recruitment, PDRs, training plans, sickness, and disciplinary management.
10. Developing effective relationships with the client and other framework contractors, you will be the main point of contact for day-to-day activities on the framework, including attending framework meetings, reporting, and continual improvement.
11. Responsible for change management, working with the commercial team to ensure all change is captured and administered correctly.
12. This role may involve working on projects outside of the National Highways Scheme delivery Framework and performing any other duties as required.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role in highways.
Site Managers Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) or IOSH Managing Safely.
CSCS Managers Card.
Working knowledge of CDM regulations.
Ability to develop a programme and sequence of works from a set of drawings.
Knowledge of NEC form of contract.
Programme and Risk Management and cost control including forecasting, actual cost, and value reporting.
Competent in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Excellent communication, people, and team management skills.
Ability to challenge designs and resolve problems to conclusion.
Ability to demonstrate the right behaviours to lead and motivate the team, ensuring high standards of compliance with company governance.
Desirable
Degree/HNC or equivalent.
Good knowledge of specifications and testing regime relevant to series 1200, 1300 & 1400 of the specification for highways works.
Experience of working directly for National Highways.
Competent in the use of Microsoft Project.
Appointed Persons Lifting.
Temporary Works Coordinator.
