Head of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company's HSE strategy and management systems. This role ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, protects employee and stakeholder well-being, and fosters a culture of safety. Key responsibilities include strategic leadership, compliance and regulatory oversight, risk management and safety culture, incident and crisis management, performance monitoring and reporting, and stakeholder engagement and communication. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in health and safety leadership, with experience in strategic planning and implementation of management systems in a large or complex organisation. A bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Risk Management, or a related field is essential, and a master's degree or additional certifications is highly desirable. The role requires a decisive and confident individual with strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to leadership. The successful candidate will be able to influence at all levels of the organisation and have a proven track record in health and safety leadership. The following are the key responsibilities and requirements for the role:
* Strategic Leadership: Lead the development and execution of Loganair's health and safety strategy, and environment strategy in alignment with overall business objectives. Provide expert advice on health, safety, environment and risk management to senior leadership, ensuring HSE is integrated into the airline's core processes. Drive the health, safety and environment agenda, aligning it with business priorities, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. Drive continuous improvement activity with regards to incident reduction and compliance with regulatory requirements; targeting zero reportable incidents to the Health and Safety Executive and EA/SEPA and enforcing this culture across the organisation.
* Compliance & Regulatory Oversight: Ensure that Loganair and its employees comply with local and national health, safety and environmental laws, regulations, and industry standards. Ensure internal audits are conducted to provide assurance of compliance. Stay informed of regulatory changes and ensure that policies and practices are updated in a timely manner and communicated to the business. Manage audits, inspections, and compliance reviews from external agencies or authorities.
* Risk Management & Safety Culture: Identify and assess health, safety and environmental risks, implementing mitigation strategies in collaboration with operational departments to reduce hazards and prevent accidents or incidents and ensure seamless integration of HSE policies. Promote a proactive health and safety culture by fostering a shared sense of responsibility for health and safety at all levels of the organisation, and promote collective care and protection for our environment. Develop and implement safety training programmes for all employees and ensure ongoing awareness campaigns. Lead and mentor colleagues engaged in health and safety activities, ensuring they are well-trained, motivated, and equipped to carry out their roles.
* Incident & Crisis Management: Oversee investigations into incidents, accidents, and near-misses, identifying root causes and developing corrective and preventive measures. Lead crisis management efforts during major health, safety and environment emergencies or incidents, in conjunction with the wider safety team, ensuring appropriate reporting and documentation of all incidents in accordance with legal requirements.
* Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of the health and safety and environment strategies. Produce regular reports on HSE performance for the board and senior leadership, including incident statistics, compliance status, and improvement actions. Analyse trends and data to continually improve health and safety programmes.
* Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: Work collaboratively within the Safety & Sustainability team and wider operations team and across Loganair. Act as the primary point of contact for all health, safety and environment-related communications both internally and externally. Senior stakeholder for relationship with the Health and Safety Executive, SEPA and EA. Engage with external stakeholders such as regulatory bodies, industry groups, insurance providers, and contractors to stay abreast of best practices and external requirements.

* Risk Management: In-depth knowledge of risk assessment methodologies, incident investigation, and mitigation strategies.
* Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with all levels of the organization and external stakeholders.
* Problem Solving: Ability to think critically and solve complex issues with innovative solutions.
* Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations and compliance requirements.

Experience/Education:
* Extensive experience in a health and safety leadership role, with a proven track record in strategic planning and implementation of management systems in a large or complex organisation.
* Experience in a transport, heavy engineering or maintenance setting is essential.
* Experience in environmental management desirable.
* A bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Risk Management, or a related field, or a NEBOSH diploma is essential.
* A master's degree or additional certifications is highly desirable.
