The Respiratory Physiologist will have responsibility for actively participating as part of the multidisciplinary team within Respiratory Medicine in order to provide a seamless service to patients.
They will be expected to be able to work unsupervised in all areas and be responsible for the day-to-day running of any area in which they are working.
They will be responsible for junior staff.
Main duties of the job
* Participate in the delivery of a specialist clinical service and deliver a high standard of care to all patients.
* Competently perform a range of routine diagnostic lung function tests.
* Set-up sleep studies, analyze and report on sleep studies.
* Competently initiate patients on CPAP therapy, follow-up and review patients.
* Competently assess patients for BIPAP therapy, initiate, follow up, and review patients.
* Review and prioritize inpatient requests for respiratory investigations including lung function tests, sleep studies, and CPAP/BIPAP set-ups.
* Assist with the efficient running of the technical service by prioritizing the daily workload where appropriate.
* Identify equipment faults and resolve issues by reporting them in a timely manner to senior staff.
* Ensure all equipment is operational, stock levels are maintained, and that equipment and non-disposable items are cleaned according to departmental policies and procedures.
* Be responsible for stock control and procurement of stock/equipment.
* Fulfill any other duties as directed by the Medical Director of the Gibraltar Health Authority.
* Undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities, as requested by GHA Management.

Job Description
Job responsibilities
* Competently perform a full range of basic lung function tests on adults and pediatric patients including spirometry, gas diffusion tests, static lung volumes, respiratory muscle tests, FeNO, and bronchodilator reversibility on in-patients and out-patients.
* Competently initiate patients on CPAP/BIPAP therapy, follow-up and review patients.
* Assess patients' need for oxygen therapy, order and set up oxygen including ambulatory and home oxygen, and keep comprehensive records.
* Produce detailed reports and write letters to General Practitioners/Hospital Medical staff clearly documenting the results of assessments, diagnosis, treatment plans, and progress. Update patient notes and electronic systems as necessary.
* Teach junior staff.
* Effectively, promptly, and professionally respond to emergency situations maintaining control and requesting assistance as necessary.
* Participate in the training of other disciplines.
* Liaise with ward and/or medical staff and ensure availability when required in order to perform in-patient testing.
* Assist with the efficient running of the technical service by prioritizing the daily workload where appropriate.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
* BSc in Clinical Physiology or Equivalent HPC/RCCP
* Basic training and experience in Respiratory/Sleep Physiology ILS
* Evidence of maintaining relevant Continuing Professional Development
Experience Essential
* Experience performing and reporting specialist lung function testing in a range of settings to inform decision making regarding subsequent treatment options.
* Experience setting up and scoring respiratory home sleep studies.
* Experience in counseling patients on starting Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy including DVLA regulations.
