We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Accrington team in the position of Maintenance Fitter.
The role holder will play a safe and active part in maintenance activities, being responsible for rectifying all electrical malfunctions/breakdowns safely and effectively to enable the continuity and productivity of the plant, achieving current safety, output, and quality targets.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform to a good standard all aspects of Maintenance Fitting.
* Provide solutions for practical problems; day-to-day duties will vary depending on the task.
* Fault finding on pneumatics, hydraulics, and machines out of sequence to reduce downtime.
* General welding and fabrication.
* Develop personal engineering skills.
* Provide maintenance solutions to enhance plant efficiencies.
* General machining is an advantage, including Centre Lathe and Milling Machine work.
Your duties would include, but are not limited to:
* Before work commences on any item of plant/machinery, ensure all relevant safe work procedures are sought and followed, along with an assessment made if needed with the maintenance fitter, plant foreman, and management.
* Ensure a full working at height risk assessment is carried out when performing any work at height, including permits.
* Provide technical expertise to support plant requirements.
* Complete a one-minute risk assessment before carrying out any work, irrespective of a full risk assessment being in place.
* Use the Forterra Permit to Work system.
* Provide inspection, testing, and commissioning expertise and support.
* Ensure all monitoring equipment is in serviceable condition when using vibration tools and ensure not to exceed acceptable limits.
* Encourage teamwork with both electrical and mechanical employees, promoting flexibility and a culture of continuous improvement.
* Proactively support company/site initiatives.
* Work collaboratively with all maintenance staff to ensure a unified team.
* Ensure isolation of all plant and equipment both electrically and mechanically before commencing duties, using personnel lock-off LOTOTO.
* Return all tools to their correct place and dispose of all debris properly.
* Adhere to rules and procedures involving the use of workshop equipment.
* After completing work, ensure a full test has been carried out, safety guards are in place, and all debris is removed before the operation of the plant/equipment.
* Aid in tunnel kiln shutdown/light up and general maintenance as required.
* Work in conjunction with Maintenance Electricians and assist as necessary.
* Keep plant and maintenance records up to date.
* Carry out PPMs to a good standard with records.
* Understand the sequence of all machines and have a basic understanding of their operation.
* Use all hand/power tools and ladders safely and correctly, using the required PPE, and take out of action immediately any damaged/faulty items.
* Report all irregularities/health & safety issues to the maintenance manager.
* Perform housekeeping duties as required.
* Be flexible with overtime and covering holidays, and work a reasonable amount of overtime when required.
* Undertake any relevant training as requested on rest days and during your shift.
About You:
The job requires adequate mechanical qualifications and a minimum of three years’ experience.
