Chief Executive Officer – The PCA
Job Description
Are you passionate about cricket and championing the ongoing interests of professional cricketers in England and Wales? Do you have a deep understanding of what professional cricketers need today? And do you have the leadership skills to guide a forward-thinking organisation that puts members at the heart of its work?
The Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) is a not-for-profit organisation seeking an innovative and dynamic Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organisation into its next phase.
The PCA is dedicated to amplifying the voices of its members. As a key player in advocating for their interests and rights, the PCA works closely with its stakeholders to ensure they protect, listen, empower and challenge on behalf of all 3,500+ past and current members.
As CEO, you will have strategic and operational leadership over the organisation, managing a dedicated and diverse team to deliver outstanding results for members. You will work closely with the Board, key stakeholders, and members to ensure the PCA continues to thrive while meeting the evolving needs of the members it serves.
The Chief Executive reports to the PCA group management board on all matters and the Non-Executive Chair of the group board on all commercial and governance issues. On cricketing matters, the Chief Executive works closely with the elected Players‘ Chair.
A number of major stakeholder negotiations have been completed in 2024, therefore the ongoing management of these vital relationships, the development and strategic management of the PCA, and ensuring it provides the best support for its members and delivers on core commitments, will be key for the new post holder.

Salary: £165k+ depending on experience, plus benefits

Contract: Permanent, full time
Key responsibilities:
1. Lead the day-to-day operations of the PCA, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services and the effective use of resources.
2. Develop and implement the organisation’s strategy for the next phase.
3. Build and maintain strong relationships at all levels with the game’s stakeholders, including: the ECB, the ICC, Team England Player Partnership, England Women’s Player Partnership, The Cricketers’ Trust, other cricket boards, the counties, venues, sponsors, media, charities, and player representatives.
4. Identify and exploit new income opportunities against agreed targets with the Chair and Management Board.
5. Be the spokesperson on all player issues and represent the PCA at events and conferences, as well as handling all media enquiries.
6. Provide leadership to a diverse team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity.
7. Ensure compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements, including governance and safeguarding standards.
8. Ensure the PCA’s financial sustainability, including effective budgeting, cash flow management, and risk management.
9. A charismatic and well-respected senior-level executive with significant leadership experience who will act as a highly regarded ambassador for the PCA.
10. Evidence of being used to a highly visible, high-pressure environment with a track record of success driving a business forward on a secure commercial footing, whilst brokering collaborative working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
11. A proven track record of negotiating complex contractual, commercial rights.
12. Prior CEO level experience.
13. A good understanding of elite level sport, and a deep level of knowledge of the needs of cricketers today.

8. Approachability, balance, and calmness when dealing with the media.
The PCA is operating an anonymised shortlisting process for this position to ensure the truly talented are brought forward. Candidate suitability will be judged based on the person specification provided. In addition to a full Curriculum Vitae, the process asks candidates to submit a cover letter. While the outsourced HR provider will have sight of both CV and cover letter for veracity purposes, the PCA selection panel will only see a redacted version.
Deadline for formal applications will be 5pm on 10 December 2024.
First round interviews will take place on 16 December 2024, virtually.
Second round interviews will take place on the afternoon of 13 January 2025 in London.
