The Band 6 Paediatric Respiratory Physiotherapist is responsible for delivering exemplary physiotherapy services to children and young people with a range of respiratory conditions within Respiratory Outpatients and Inpatient Paediatric High Dependency Unit. The service provision includes Non-Invasive Ventilation, Cystic Fibrosis, Neuromuscular Specialties, and Complex Respiratory caseload. The role involves working autonomously, assessing, diagnosing, and providing specialist respiratory care for children with physical disabilities, developmental delays, and complex conditions. There is routine multidisciplinary team working in acute settings. You will manage a defined caseload using evidence-based, patient-centered principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and record outcomes. You will contribute to the development of the Paediatric Physiotherapy Service and clinically support students and junior staff. This post is based at our Heartlands site; however, as the Trust is a multi-site organisation, you may be required to work at any of the Trust sites and may need to change your normal place of work, either temporarily or permanently because of development or reorganisation of Trust services. Applicants will be required to participate in the respiratory adult and paediatric out-of-hours and overnight on-call service and 7-day working rota.
Main duties of the job
To perform specialist physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations, complex physical and psychological conditions. To provide a diagnosis, develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme. You need comprehensive knowledge of respiratory and/or critical care environments. Autonomous practitioner with the ability to prioritise and organise own workload. An ability to cope with a range of complex options, find solutions, analyse, compare, and decide on an appropriate course of action. Able to work as part of an inter and multi-disciplinary team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills including an ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive, and contentious information. To demonstrate a sound understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management and apply it to work situations. To be responsible for equipment used in performing physiotherapy duties and to adhere to departmental policy, including competence to use equipment and to ensure safe use of equipment by others through teaching, training, and supervision of practice. To maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date documentation, in line with legal and departmental requirements and communicate assessment and treatment results as appropriate in the form of reports and letters. To keep up to date with Information Management & Technology as required by the service. To be a source of clinical expertise and advice for junior and less senior physiotherapists in the Trust.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* BSc Physiotherapy, Diploma or Grad. Dip Physiotherapy, MCSP, Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.
* Evidence of CPD including postgraduate training relevant to clinical specialty.
* Membership of Association of Paediatric Chartered Physiotherapists (APCP).
Experience
* Strong interest in the field of paediatric physiotherapy.
* Demonstrates clinical experience enabling the post holder to manage a caseload of Paediatric patients within this specialty/within the NHS with experience of Paediatric respiratory care.
* Experience of working on a physiotherapy on-call service.
* Supervision of student physiotherapists and assistants.
* An ability to analyze clinical and non-clinical complex facts and situations, which require the interpretation and comparison of a range of options.
* An ability to plan, organize, formulate, and adjust complex plans.
* An ability to supervise and delegate work to physiotherapists, assistants, and students.
* Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio.
* Evidence of IT skills.
* Student placements or qualified clinical work to have provided a broad range of experience in respiratory, neurological, and/or MSK conditions.
* Experience in the supervision of student physiotherapists and assistants.
* Ability to use in-depth clinical skills to systematically diagnose/assess patient/client problems.
* To understand and evaluate complex situations and information to formulate an appropriate course of action.
* The ability to frequently modify the planned activity to suit the needs of the individual.
* Working knowledge of Government initiatives, NSF's etc.
* Able to work collaboratively with physiotherapy colleagues, multidisciplinary team [e.g. doctors, OT's, other allied health professionals, relatives, carers, Education and Social Services, and voluntary staff].
* Able to demonstrate persuasive, motivational, negotiating skills when dealing with highly sensitive information.
* Recent Paediatric caseload.
* Recent or working towards postgraduate course.
