Paws & Play in Bolton are looking to recruit an Animal Care Apprentice to assist in the day-to-day running of their busy doggy day care business. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a keen interest in animals.

Shifts will vary but will start no earlier than 7.00am and finish no later than 6.00pm. A rota will be sent each week for the following week with specified times and days. TBC.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
* Ensuring the daily care, feeding, watering, cleaning and hygiene of all dogs.
* Ensuring the premises is kept clean at all times.
* Assisting with daily and weekly cleaning regimes in line with our procedures, including regular hoovering, mopping and disinfecting.
* Meeting and greeting customers with their dogs upon arrival and departure.
* Booking dogs in and out using our booking system.
* Playing with, interacting and stimulating dogs, of all shapes and sizes.
* Ensuring dogs are well behaved and addressing any problems.
* Recording of dog activities such as toileting, sleeping and enrichment.
* Taking photos and videos of dog play time during a range of activities.

Your training plan
Training will be provided by Myerscough College towards the Level 2 Animal Care & Welfare Assistant Apprenticeship Standard, through a Work-based blended delivery programme consisting predominantly of on-site training and assessment within the workplace & some college attendance.
Individuals will need to achieve the core skills, knowledge & behaviours & choose one occupational option relating to their job role.
The end point assessment will contain 2 components:
* Practical Assessment (weighting 50%); an observation of the apprentice completing one practical assessment consisting of two tasks of practical skill in which the Apprentices will demonstrate their Skills, Behaviours and underlying Knowledge, as required by the Standard.
* Professional Discussion (weighting 50%); this will take the form of a professional discussion and portfolio review that will cover all areas of underpinning and applied Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours.
There will be 2 levels of achievement: Pass & Distinction

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
* 2 other subjects (grade 2-9/E-A*)
* English (grade 2-9/E-A*)
* Maths (grade 2-9/E-A*)

Other requirements
You will spend a lot of time cleaning up after dogs and you will be expected to maintain high hygiene standards. This is not a job where you sit around and cuddle dogs all day, the dogs must be treated with respect and in a professional manner. You will be in contact with dog fur and dander which can irritate asthma suffers. To ensure your application has the best chance of being considered for the vacancy you must provide information on all qualifications undertaken stating highest grades achieved in every subject, paying particular attention to maths and English. Along with this you need to state any previous work experience.
