Head of Estates, Sustainability, and Safety
Salary: up to £80,000
Location: Leeds - hybrid working (2 days a week on site, 3 days at home)
In this key leadership role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our colleagues, maintaining work environments that are fit for purpose, and leading the implementation and management of our sustainability and carbon reduction strategy. This role will focus on ensuring compliance with legal obligations, overseeing the estates strategy, and providing expert advice on sustainability and safety matters.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Develop and lead a multi-year estates strategy aligned with our 2025-2030 goals.
2. Establish a sustainability and safety culture with clear strategies and plans to meet the ambitions.
3. Collaborate with the COO to manage the department's budget, ensuring cost-efficiency and value.
4. Work with the Health & Safety Manager to ensure effective health and safety management systems are in place.
5. Oversee compliance with legal and regulatory responsibilities, including those from the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and FCA.
6. Lead the development and delivery of cohesive facilities services across the business.
7. Manage market-testing and contracting processes in partnership with the procurement team, ensuring regular service reviews.
8. Lead the Estates, Sustainability, and Safety team, building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
9. Monitor contractor performance, ensuring timely action on any service or contractual issues.
10. Review landlord service charge budgets, challenging overspend and ensuring evidence of completed work is provided.
11. Ensure compliance with environmental sustainability, energy, and carbon management legislation through effective management protocols and reporting mechanisms.
12. Oversee the collection of data on environmental performance and monitor key sustainability performance indicators.
13. Represent the business on external matters related to sustainability through engagement with professional bodies.
14. Stay updated on regulatory changes, identifying potential risks and opportunities.
Person Specification:
Experience and Knowledge:
* Proven experience leading an Estates, Sustainability, and Safety function across multi-site and hybrid environments.
* Strong knowledge of legislation and best practices in estates, sustainability, and safety, with the ability to develop strategies, policies, and procedures.
* Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., membership in the Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management) are desirable but not essential.

* Strong analytical skills for resolving complex service and performance issues.
