About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Research Scientist to join our client's in-vivo department on a permanent basis.
The successful candidate will work as part of a talented team to conduct scientific studies, develop new techniques, and provide training and mentoring to junior staff.
The role requires a high degree of technical expertise, including proficiency in a range of in vivo techniques from basic to surgical skills.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of relevant legislation, including the Home Office Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, and have experience working with animals in a laboratory setting.
Key Responsibilities:
* Demonstrate competency in a broad range of in vivo techniques, including basic and advanced surgical skills.
* Early detection of signs of ill health or loss of condition via clinical observations to prevent premature deaths.
* Understand current expectations of the Home Office Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 and relevant methods of humane killing.
* Maintain accurate records of animal health, source, and disposal, in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
* Participate in general unit sanitation, husbandry, and cage washing activities to maintain high standards of facility hygiene.
* Raise potential problems associated with experiments and suggest solutions for discussion.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you should possess:
* A minimum of 5 GCSE-level education, including science-related subjects.
* A-Levels or BTEC National Diploma in Animal Care (or related area), or relevant IAT qualifications.
* Some relevant experience, particularly in oncology models.
* Highly skilled in animal handling and welfare assessment, with experience in basic surgical skills.
* Proficient in computer software, including MS Office and LIMS System "Study Log".
* Possession of a Personal License Holder (Modules A & B).
