The postholder must be competent in assessing the efficacy of the patients progress through the day surgery pathway. Is responsible for decision to discharge patients from hospital within agreed protocols (nurse led discharge) Carry out all relevant forms of care, supervising junior members of staff and delegating duties as appropriate Lead with agreed assigned duties/projects within speciality i.e. link nurse roles Teach and assess all staff, both formally and informally Act as a Supervisor/assessor to student nurses and other learners, providing guidance and supervision of practice Act as a preceptor to newly qualified staff Participate in the assessment of equipment before use, in accordance with the clinical Monitoring and Risk Assessment policies Undertake nursing procedures and techniques in accordance with agreed local protocols, within specialised area, underpinned by theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience Follow and work within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct Act as a role model for students and other staff by professional performance and example Participate in research, applying evidence-based practice i.e. prescribing, implementing and evaluating care Participate in clinical risk management and assessment Participate in clinical audit activities and development of outcomes Assist with the individual performance review of support staff Advise on the promotion of health and the prevention of illnessrea: Provide experienced nursing care and support to patients during the pre and post-operative phases of surgery/procedures, including nurse-led clinics.
