We're looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Import Customs Administrator to join our client's team based near Hatfield Peverel. Main Purpose of the role: Work as part of a team, reporting to a Customs Team Leader or Manager. Sign and complete customs documents under a Power of Attorney on behalf of clients. Review client commercial invoices and packing lists to extract necessary data for import declarations. Collaborate with importers (and possibly exporters) and internal teams to gather mandatory information for import entries. Input details into specialised Customs software such as Destin8, Sequoia, Descartes, etc., to allow goods to enter the country and be delivered to the consignees. Be knowledgeable in platforms like CDS, NCTS, GVMS, IPAFFS, and other relevant regulatory systems. Assign appropriate licences depending on the type of goods being imported. Calculate and process taxes and duties to be paid by buyers of goods. Assist with the application of duty refunds and tariff reclassification when necessary and help with any related appeals. Stay fully updated on import Customs regulations and adapt to changes as they occur. Advise customers on import/export restrictions, tariff systems, insurance requirements, and other Customs-related matters. Understand and process necessary import documentation, including T-documents, EUR1s, Certificates of Origin, PAOAs, HRFNAOs, and other cargo control documents, including discharging T-documents and REX Statements. Coordinate with Port Health, Border Force, or HMRC officials for document checks, goods quarantine, etc. Arrange the release of goods from Customs-approved sites (ETSF locations) and/or ports of arrival, liaising with internal colleagues regarding release, transport, and warehousing issues. Complete 75 entries per week comfortably. Required Experience & Skills: Previous experience in a similar role is essential. Strong understanding of Customs legal requirements and the impact of incorrect information or Customs declarations. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to compile documentation and clearly interpret legal requirements for customers. Strong interpersonal skills for daily interaction with various agencies. Ability to solve complex problems and engage in critical thinking, as well as actively listen and interpret information concisely. While working as part of a team, you must be self-motivating, organised, and capable of maintaining records efficiently. Proficiency in using Windows-based applications and other industry-standard software. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ensuring clearance processes are completed accurately and promptly with great attention to detail.
