Through a rotation of departments, you will have the opportunity to work on the full Strategic Road network, keeping the UK's highways running. You will have exposure to end devices such as CCTV, Message signs, Journey time management, and Roadside Telephones, to name but a few. You will also work on the nationwide communications network that connects all this equipment together.
What you'll do:
1. The successful candidate will be learning from our highly experienced and skilled engineers. This apprenticeship is designed to allow the successful candidates to rotate across different areas of the wider Highways team. You will become a multi-skilled engineer working in various environments and building technical knowledge around critical pieces of IT/Telecommunications kit utilized across the UK's Highways.
2. Learn how to maintain roadside cabinets, cable and termination, testing equipment on fibre and copper cable networks on the National Roads Telecommunications Service networks.
3. Learn how to work with Optical Fibre including cable preparation, splicing, OTDR testing, and how to interpret the results.
4. Understand and learn about IP routers and networks.
5. Support and learn how to test, repair, replace, and re-configure the latest Telecoms equipment.
6. Ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with Telent Environmental, Health and Safety processes and policies.
7. Learn how to complete all the associated documentation required as part of the task, on time.
8. Familiarize yourself with project and client requirements.
9. Rotate across different teams building an understanding of how each team cooperates to produce the end goal.
Who you are & what to prepare for:
1. We don't require individuals with experience as we will provide full training in all aspects of the role. We are looking for candidates with the right attitude, commitment, and desire to learn.
2. You will get a vehicle, mobile phone, and laptop as part of the role.
3. Although supported throughout the programme by us at Telent, you will need to take ownership of your tasks and personal development.
4. The role involves travelling regionally, and you will be expected to stay away from home on regular occasions.
5. This role involves working at heights, working outdoors, and travelling across different regions across the UK.
The Requirements:
1. Minimum of 5 GCSE's Grade 4 or higher (or equivalent qualification). This must include Maths, English, and a Science or IT-based subject.
2. A-Level/Level 3 (or equivalent) IT-related qualification.
3. Must be eligible to work in the UK.
4. Full UK Driving licence (Essential).
5. Must be over the age of 18 by January 2025.
6. Able to pass full Security Clearance vetting for access to secure information, site access, and confidential permissions.
7. Able to adhere to our Drugs & Alcohol policy and pass a pre-employment Drugs & Alcohol assessment.
Programme Specifics:
1. This apprenticeship is typically 24 months in duration.
2. Starting salary of £18,000 which will increase throughout the duration of the programme.
3. The qualification you gain will be a Level 4 Network Engineer.
4. Our chosen training provider InteQual will support you in obtaining your qualification.
5. You will be predominantly field-based throughout the apprenticeship programme.
6. On completion of your apprenticeship, we hope to offer you a full-time position with Telent where you can continue to pursue your career.
