Our healthcare is in crisis, and we need to do something about it. This is why we come to work every morning.
Nightingale Health’s mission is to build sustainable healthcare and reduce health inequalities. Nightingale Health has developed the world’s most advanced health check that provides risk detection for multiple chronic diseases from a single blood sample.
It’s time to start building a better health system for everyone.
At Nightingale Health, we're all about people who, rather than just repeat and secure the old, want to create something new; people who love to learn more to be able to build something better, something meaningful – better healthcare for the world.
We are looking for an experienced Data Scientist to join our team in Oxford/London, UK.
Our blood test technology simultaneously measures different molecules that capture a diverse range of metabolic processes. We have used it to profile a million samples from the world’s largest research studies and linked those results to extensive clinical data and health outcomes. We discover new insights into human health from this data. At Nightingale Health, you’ll be enabling a technology and approach that has the potential to change the health of billions of people.
Here are the challenges we have for you:
1. Hands-on data analysis in a globally unique dataset of molecular and clinical measurements to build models that predict people’s future health risks and identify how to prevent common diseases.
2. Work with other data scientists and software engineers in an agile environment to bring new discoveries into our products.
3. Develop new analysis ideas and techniques, and take leadership in implementing them, demonstrating their efficacy, and promoting them within our team and beyond.
4. Work with UK partners to implement risk scores for preventative health in UK healthcare systems, including developing new collaborations and new product use cases.
5. Carry out analysis for clinical and academic partnerships using our technology.
6. Write clean, readable code for your own analysis and to be used as the basis for future products. Review teammates’ code to maintain high standards.
7. Travel to national and international events to present our scientific work to research and clinical audiences.
You are our perfect match if you ...
1. Have a PhD, or a Master’s degree plus 3 years of experience, in a healthcare data science field (bioinformatics, data science, epidemiology, or applied statistics).
2. Have good experience working with human healthcare cohort data in the past, including data acquisition, cleaning, modeling, and interpretation.
3. Have proven ability to write high-quality data science code in R, Python, or both.
4. Can work in a fast-paced environment with a focus on getting things done.
5. Want to make a difference in building better preventative healthcare.
6. Are excited about learning new things from big datasets.
These will help you to succeed in this role:
1. Experience with analysis of ‘omics data (metabolomics, genetics, transcriptomics, proteomics) in the context of human cohort studies of disease.
2. Past knowledge, training, or research experience in human metabolism.
3. Past knowledge, training, or research experience in preventative medicine or screening (risk stratification, primary or secondary preventative interventions).
4. Experience working with others to translate scientific findings into clinical or commercial use.
5. Diverse backgrounds! Don’t worry if you don’t exactly meet these requirements; we’d still like to hear from you.
Why you’ll love working at Nightingale Health:
1. A wide-open field for turning analysis ideas into real benefits. The potential use cases are broad (any field of healthcare across three continents). We have very large datasets to test out ideas. We have a track record of regulatory approval for bringing risk prediction tools to market. You can go from idea to proof-of-concept analysis to implementation faster than in almost any other biotech job.
2. Meaningful, pioneering work that offers you the opportunity to make a difference in the world. Preventative healthcare is a major challenge that needs good brains!
3. A unique opportunity to work in an international and multidisciplinary team of scientists, developers, designers, and biotech business experts.
4. A chance to develop your skills to a high standard in the biotech world.
5. Responsibility and independence as an accountable member of our Data Science team.
6. A flexible and informal working environment with both professional office capabilities as well as hybrid working possibilities.
7. Team get-togethers.
8. Interest clubs from running to music.
What to expect from the recruitment process:
1. Step 1: Video call with Talent Acquisition, Anna Zhidkova.
2. Step 2: Complete our data science assignment, which will be reviewed by the team.
3. Step 3: Meet our Principal Scientist, Luke Jostins-Dean, at an in-person interview in Oxford.
4. Step 4: Meet our Chief Scientific Officer, Jeffrey Barrett, and other members of our team at an in-person interview in Helsinki.
5. Step 5: Meet our CEO, Teemu Suna, for the final interview.
