The Academic Design Department, within the Design & Media team, is responsible for managing and developing strong and effective designs for print products, marketing, and branding.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a talented, creative, and motivated individual to join our team. Reporting to a Design Manager, you will use your design skills to produce high quality book cover designs for a wide range of our academic publishing. There will also be the opportunity to create marketing materials and contribute to design concepts for other group projects, including branding and digital. You will manage and have responsibility for your own lists and lead projects/initiatives, working collaboratively both with the team and other functions, such as Editorial, Production, Marketing, and suppliers.

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.
About You
The successful candidate will be a creative thinker with a passion for publishing and able to demonstrate high quality book cover design in their portfolio. You should possess strong organizational and communication skills as well as the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Strong typography and layout skills are essential, as is the ability to manage many projects at the same time to tight deadlines. You will be fully proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Cloud applications. You can adapt your design style to suit different audiences and genres and appropriately dedicate resource according to product and department goals/strategy.
The ideal candidate will have:
* A qualification (or equivalent) in Graphic Design, preferably with a specialism in Typography
* Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat)
* Good knowledge of Microsoft Office software within a MAC environment
* Thorough understanding and experience of the publishing process and production techniques
* Experience of producing high quality design for print
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
* Ability to manage busy workload and work efficiently to strict deadlines
* A high level of attention to detail and self-motivation
