Job Introduction
We are seeking a highly experienced and enthusiastic individual to join our community team for people with learning disabilities.
Our work involves close collaboration with psychiatry and the wider multi-disciplinary community team. Working in a learning disability service requires drawing on expertise from various theoretical orientations and interventions. Referrals include cognitive assessments, trauma work, neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric conditions (including autism spectrum disorders), dementia, neurodegenerative conditions, and comorbid mental health issues, including risks of harm to self or others. We support your development of any specialist interests in these areas.
As part of the team, you will provide highly specialist psychological assessments, including neuropsychological and functional assessments, clinical formulations, and therapeutic interventions based on multiple theoretical models. You will also support wider service initiatives to prevent and reduce psychosocial and mental health difficulties. Your role involves direct work with individuals with learning disabilities, their families, and service providers, as well as providing consultation at operational and strategic levels, along with clinical supervision and training for colleagues and trainees.
You will be expected to lead and guide the development of learning disabilities psychology services within the organization. Support and supervision for psychology staff are prioritized. Opportunities for joint working and participation in wider psychologist networks through various forums are available. You will be supported by a friendly and innovative team that meets regularly.
Main Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
1. Offer an autonomous, highly specialist clinical psychology assessment and treatment service.
2. Provide advanced and specialist treatment using evidence-based psychological models (e.g., CBT, EMDR, DBT, PBS).
3. Offer specialist consultancy, advice, and clinical supervision to qualified clinical psychology staff and other professionals.
4. Utilize your highly specialist psychological skills to contribute to the effective management of care within and outside the area.
5. Participate in audit, research, policy, and service development within the Psychological Therapies Service.
6. Develop and deliver training in psychological therapies for multidisciplinary staff.
7. Undertake management tasks delegated by senior management, including caseload management, supervision, appraisals, and service development.
8. Provide leadership within the Learning Disabilities Psychology service.
9. Engage in relevant research and teaching in specialized clinical areas.

The Ideal Candidate
Essential
* Doctorate (or equivalent) in Clinical Psychology and HCPC registration.
* Significant post-qualification experience with individuals with learning disabilities.
* Specialist CPD and training in relevant therapeutic approaches and supervision.
* Experience in teaching, training, and supervising Trainee Clinical Psychologists and other professionals.
* Involvement in research, development, and clinical audit work aligned with the role.
* Strong expertise in assessments, formulations, and therapeutic interventions.
* Advanced supervision skills and experience working with complex cases.
* Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a team, with strong organizational abilities.
* Empathy, emotional resilience, and self-awareness.
* Ability to work independently under pressure, including with emotionally challenging or high-risk clients.
* High focus, professionalism, and sensitivity when engaging with clients.
* Ability to work effectively across all organizational levels.
* Physical ability to remain seated for assessments and awareness of potential exposure to challenging situations.
Desirable
* Experience in service development or project work.
* Proficiency in spreadsheets and specialist clinical data analysis software.
