The Imaging department seeks an enthusiastic sonographer to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will have the opportunity to train, mentor, and develop other staff to maintain high standards. We are a modern, fast-paced, dynamic department with an interesting and challenging case load, especially in our in-patient departments. The service covers obstetric and general ultrasound departments as well as a variety of sub-specialties including MSK, paediatrics, vascular, and interventional. The ultrasound service is provided across three sites: University Hospital Coventry, Rugby St Cross, and the Coventry City Centre, with plans to expand into the Community Diagnostic Centre in 2025.

Job Summary
To evaluate the request, perform, and report ultrasound examinations independently to Department Protocols and be accountable for own professional actions including reporting.
1. Act as an autonomous practitioner to carry out a full range of ultrasound examinations across all patient pathways to a high standard and produce independent reports ensuring compliance with imaging protocols.
2. Produce and interpret high-quality images to diagnose and confirm normality and abnormality, injuries, and diseases.
3. Teach and supervise radiographers, students, and SPRs while supporting the Lead in organizing the ultrasound service per Trust/departmental protocols.
4. Perform examinations and high quality diagnostic ultrasound images, following governmental and departmental protocols.
5. Prepare independent clinical reports for completed ultrasound scans, adhering to departmental protocols.
6. Manage “designated” procedures to assess patients' needs, adapting imaging techniques as necessary for their condition, ensuring their welfare and safety.
7. Discuss ultrasound findings with patients where appropriate.
8. Provide expert clinical and professional advice and support the multidisciplinary team within UHCW NHS Trust and other regional Trusts.
9. Be responsible for the operational supervision and management of allocated area, managing workflow and resources for efficient service delivery.
10. Participate in request validation, vetting, and justification per departmental protocols.
11. Check patient identification and documentation to ensure appropriate examinations according to departmental protocols and clinical requests.
12. Evaluate resultant images for quality, instigating remedial actions and alerting clinicians of abnormalities as appropriate.
13. Act as a role model, maintaining high standards of professionalism and patient care, encouraging the development of a strong multidisciplinary team.
14. Participate in the departmental Quality Assurance programme to ensure optimal operation of technical equipment and compliance with best practices.
15. Support 7-day working service delivery.
16. Assist booking/reception staff with queries from patients or staff regarding ultrasound examination requests.
17. Facilitate communication between the department and all service users, adhering to Trust policies, including participation in annual appraisal/review systems.
18. Communicate with patients and colleagues in situations that may be traumatic or where the patient's condition may hinder comprehension and compliance.
19. Convey complex and sensitive information to patients and clients professionally, explaining procedures and obtaining consent when necessary.
20. Assist in implementing manual and electronic information systems for accurate data collection and recording, supporting standard data collection, performance activity, audit, and capacity and demand analysis.
21. Attend specialist MDM meetings and audit meetings, contributing to peer review and service redesign/modernization planning.
