We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner to work within the Intensive Support Team (IST) for children and young people.
The team works with a small number of young people with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism, their families and the systems around them; focusing on those who present with a high level of risk to themselves and/or others and where behaviours of concern impact on their quality of life and opportunities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out functional assessments as part of a MDT. The candidate will lead on the assessment outcomes and the development of behaviour support plans. They will oversee the implementation and evaluation of behaviour plans and support families, carers and staff to implement a variety of positive behavioural interventions.
The role requires a good understanding of the issues affecting individuals with a Learning Disability and/or those who are Autistic. The candidate must have experience of working in an MDT. They will demonstrate a commitment to continued professional development and both the theory and practice of PBS, embracing the Trust’s values as well as CYPIAPT principles.
The team is based in Shrewsbury; however, a flexible working practice is needed as you will be working in a range of settings including homes, schools, and respite settings. You must also be willing to travel given the geography of the county.
Main duties of the job
* To oversee and carry out comprehensive functional assessment as part of a multidisciplinary team under the direction of the Lead Clinician using the positive behaviour support framework; working with stakeholders and leading on the synthesis of assessment outcomes, formulation and the development of positive behaviour support plans.
* To oversee the implementation and evaluation of behaviour support plans and to support families, carers and staff to implement a variety of positive behavioural interventions.
* To assist the development, administration, planning, reviewing and delivering of training offered by the IST.
* To demonstrate the values of a Positive Behaviour Support approach and work with partner agencies to ensure that these young people receive a holistic, person-centred service with an emphasis on the prevention of behaviours of concern and improved quality of life.
* To offer advice and consultation on a Positive Behaviour Support approach to colleagues, support staff and other non-professional carers.
* To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service’s policies and procedures. In doing so, be responsible for adhering to relevant Trust policies, professional ethics and standards and be accountable for clinical actions.
* To carry out assessments and deliver intervention programmes in various settings including the home, short break provisions and schools.
