Dr Smith & Partners are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and conscientious Receptionist with a sense of humour to join our busy team based across two sites. Working between 20-37.5 hrs per week, shifts are a mix of mornings starting at 07:45 and afternoons finishing at 20:00 and possible full days. Shifts will be allocated on a rota basis with a minimum of 4 weeks notice given. In addition to this, you will be required to work Saturdays on a rota basis. It is essential that the successful candidate is able to be flexible in their approach to working hours.
Duties will include dealing with patients both face to face and over the telephone, and use of computers.
Applicants should have excellent communication skills and be able to work in a busy environment whilst remaining calm and approachable.
There may be a requirement to cover at short notice.
Previous experience in General Practice is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.
Main duties of the job
* Facilitate patient pathways by following signposting protocol in a courteous, efficient and effective way by telephone, in person or electronically.
* Provide general assistance to the Practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, in person or via the telephone.
* Answer the telephone professionally, efficiently and convey messages to record patient encounter notes on the clinical system to ensure accurate record keeping and audit trails.
* Scanning and electronic filing of letters into records.
* To have a thorough knowledge of all Practice procedures.
* To work in accordance to written protocols.
* Maintain adequate stock of referral forms.
* Educate and inform patients about the use of services.
* Generating and promoting new ideas to enable workloads to become more effective.
* Recognize signs of medical emergency and ensure emergency response is provided.
* Dealing with patient general inquiries and ensuring this is completed in a timely manner and checking that correct advice is given which is also up to date.
* Take results, following Practice procedures, recording information accurately.

Chapel Street Medical Centre is based in Spondon, Derby and we have a branch site Mayfield Medical Centre based in Chaddesden, Derby. Our current patient list size is approx. 12680.
We have 5 Partners, 5 salaried GPs, 1 Mental Health Practitioner and a nursing team of 5 who work on a rota basis.
We have a team of 3 secretaries, 6 administrative staff and a team of 12 reception staff who also work on a rota basis.
We are part of a Great Derby Primary Care Network.
Job responsibilities
* The primary purpose of this role is to be the first point of contact for patients, providing a friendly, efficient and polite service.
* Due to the nature of the business it is necessary that the successful candidate is flexible with regards to shifts and providing cover at either Surgery should the need arise.
* Proactively communicate information between relevant patients, GPs and colleagues.
* Answering our telephones promptly to reduce call waiting times for patients.
* To demonstrate efficiency, knowledge and skill in navigating the call and ensuring the patient needs are addressed in full, which will involve signposting to a more appropriate service.
* Setting a positive professional example to both patients and colleagues and supporting your colleagues in all aspects of the role.
* Prioritize tasks and remain calm in a busy environment, dealing with competing demands from patients and doctors.
* Adhering to and enforcing all surgery policies and procedures, keeping up to date with new policies and changes to policies as required.
