Assistant Forestry Consultant
We are delighted to be offering an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Forestry Consultant to join the consultancy team at Maydencroft Limited.
We are a close-knit group of Forestry, Ecological, Arboricultural, and Nature Recovery consultants working as an integral part of a larger organisation which includes arborists, foresters, estate managers, landscape operatives and farmers.
We are currently looking to appoint an ambitious graduate or recent professional who can deliver unparalleled forestry expertise and services to our existing high-profile clients within the commercial, public, private, utility and charity sectors, and to lead on the growth and development of the company to ever greater heights. The role/s would be well suited to people that share our passion for Forestry and can bring additional skills and experience that will help to broaden and strengthen our service.
Key responsibilities
• Supporting the management of an existing portfolio of clients and woodlands
• Contributing to woodland assessments and producing FC approved Woodland Management Plans
• Assisting with the production of UKFS-compliant Woodland Creation Design Plans
• Contributing to grant applications including EWCO and Countryside Stewardship
• Assisting with Ancient Woodland Restoration Assessments and production of Reports
• Supporting the planning and implementation of new woodland creation schemes as well as restocking and maintenance schemes
• Forestry and woodland mapping and data management via GIS
• Manage and develop a subcontractor network, utilising our supplier evaluation procedure
• Supporting our consultancy division to complete any other relevant documentation as required for organisations such as Forestry Commission, Rural Payments Agency, Environment Agency, Natural England, Woodland Trust
• Supporting, and leading where necessary, the delivery of other land management projects
• A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject
Core skills and requirements
• The ability to use initiative
• Love of the outdoors and the environment
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Good all-round knowledge of trees, woodlands and habitats
• Some understanding of current woodland policy and grant schemes
• Excellent IT and Administration skills, including use of GIS
• The ability to develop relationships with colleagues and clients
• Full UK driving licence
• Good knowledge of woodland ecology
Desirable skills & qualifications
• Lantra Professional Tree Inspection qualification
• Knowledge of Industry standards and all relevant legislation
The role will be largely remote, with occasional working from our offices in Dorney (nr Windsor) and Hertford.
