Volvo Penta is offering a Postgraduate Apprenticeship of up to 3 years where you will work alongside an experienced team to gain hands-on experience and tackle real-world challenges. In addition to your professional workplace development, from October 2025 you will enroll on the Through-life Engineering Services Specialist MSc in partnership with Cranfield University—a unique opportunity to earn while you learn and work towards a master’s degree. You are a recent graduate of a related engineering discipline OR have completed an undergraduate degree in any engineering discipline which has transferrable skill sets and knowledge.
It is preferable (but not essential) that you have previous experience in the engineering workplace gained either through an undergraduate placement/sandwich year or relevant work experience.
You are a critical thinker with an eye for detail and can communicate effectively to both internal and external stakeholders at various levels of seniority.
You are proficient in use with IT systems including (but not limited to) Word, PowerPoint and Excel and have a good overall IT competency to utilize various internal IT systems.
You will also have a desire and aptitude to learn both academically and professionally.
Who you will work with:
Totalling 26 members across the multiple Volvo Penta UK & Ireland segments and departments, you will be working alongside and learning from an inclusive team of knowledgeable and skilled professionals from a diverse variety of backgrounds. More specifically, you will be working within a tight-knit team of 6 (including you), with a strong culture and background of apprenticeship development who will be able to mentor and assist you both academically and professionally throughout your Apprenticeship; including 4 colleagues who have either previously completed this graduate program or are graduates of Volvo Group apprenticeships.
The Role:
As a critical member of the Industrial Service Market team within the wider Volvo Penta UK & Ireland team, you will report to the Director of Service Market Industrial and be responsible for:
* Providing effective technical support (remote and on-site) to optimize the business operations of the Volvo Penta UK & Ireland Industrial dealer network, Customer OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and Customer Fleet Owners, who purchase, operate, and maintain the Volvo Penta Industrial products.
* Providing a “Cradle to Grave” service approach to support the Volvo Penta product in every phase of the asset life cycle.
* Providing your experience and expertise to capture the business requirements of the UK & Ireland customer base/business partners to develop and tailor the Volvo Penta services & solutions offering.
* Using critical engineering skills and data analysis methods to conduct root cause analyses, develop/initiate containment actions and provide comprehensive quality reports to initiate corrective quality control.
* Utilizing internal case management systems to support and manage technical issues from the initial complaint to the containment/resolution of the fault and where required, support the warranty and commercial teams to resolve the complaint.
* Collaborating with the Marine Service Market and Training departments to develop and conduct training for the apprentices currently enrolled on the UK-exclusive Volvo Penta Apprenticeship Scheme currently ongoing within the UK Industrial and Marine dealer businesses.
