A vacancy has arisen within Pay, Reward and Employment Services for a PRES Officer working 37 hours per week to cover a period of maternity leave. The post is temporary until approximately March 2026 or until the return of the substantive postholder from maternity leave, whichever is sooner. Working within a supportive and friendly team based within modern, newly refurbished accommodation, the PRES Officers are key posts within our team.
We are looking for someone to join our team and contribute to the provision of an effective and accurate HR and payroll service for a wide range of customers including council employees, elected members, and external organisations. You will be fully supported in the role and full training will be provided.
WHAT IS INVOLVED?
This post will involve working across Pay, Reward & Employment Services as directed and involve undertaking tasks which cover a number of functions e.g. working with external customers to deliver a payroll service, HR/payroll system maintenance and development and the provision and interpretation of data.
You will prioritise and plan work associated with a wide range of tasks fundamental to an efficient and effective service to all internal and external customers.
You will support the Team Leader on service specific projects, e.g. onboarding/offboarding external customers, payroll system developments (including self-service functionality) including the development of guidance documents to support roll-out of self-service functionality.
You will work with internal services and external customers to ensure compliance with management performance requirements and statutory returns (e.g. pension returns, end of year certificates, workforce data).

WHAT WILL I NEED?
You should be qualified to either CIPP or CIPD Level 3, or relevant equivalent qualification. Please refer to the attached person specification for the full criteria.

HYBRID WORKING
Durham County Council currently operates a hybrid working policy where a model of 2 days in the workplace and 3 days at home/remote will apply. This model is pro-rated for part time roles and arrangements are at managers discretion, alternatively you can work all of your contracted hours within the workplace if you prefer.
