This post requires a registered physiotherapist with broad clinical experience in different specialities and general medicine. Solid knowledge of medical conditions resulting in acute hospital admissions, episodes of illness, treatment, prognosis expectations as well as how to support this group of patients to achieve their therapeutic goals.
The successful individual would be expected to participate in developing our new service (Medical Therapy Team), work within an experienced team involving Physiotherapists and Rehabilitation Assistants and be competent to provide Physiotherapeutic management for patients with a broad range of clinical presentations in general medicine (Electrolyte imbalance, SEPSIS, new or progression of Cancer, respiratory medicine, fractures, chronic or flared up neurological conditions) & Cardiology wards.
Main duties of the job
* Provide a highly specialised and up-to-date physiotherapy service in General medicine & Cardiology wards. Be competent in a range of Physiotherapeutic skills; respiratory, surgical, medicine, orthopaedic, care of the elderly, neurology, MSK and oncology.
* This post will require a good understanding of a broad range of physiotherapy specialities (Generalist specialist), a good understanding of the role of Occupational Therapy, Social and Community Services and Support participating in the supervision of Band 5 Physiotherapists and assistants. The post holder should also have a broader understanding of departmental/therapy issues.
* Provide clinical support and supervision for band 5 staff, students and assistants working in these areas.
* Be expected to provide and manage the physiotherapy service to highly complex acute inpatients.
* Be actively involved in follow-up care when needed.

* Apply up-to-date physiotherapy skills in the clinical field at a specialist post-graduate level.
* Competently treat the complex medical patient where there are conflicting components i.e. multiple pathologies psychological and social problems.
* Identify, prioritise, assess and treat appropriate patients using physiotherapy modalities.
* Line Manage Band 5 Physiotherapy staff, band 2 and 3 assistants and students.
* Assist in the delivery of a high-quality physiotherapy service.
* Be a full member of the multidisciplinary team.
* Take part in the respiratory on-call and weekend rotas.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Diploma / degree in Physiotherapy
* HCPC registration
* Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent postgraduate courses
* Post graduate accredited course in rehabilitation / relevant post graduate courses
* Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
* Membership of relevant CSP special interest group
Experience
* Proven post-graduate experience with extensive clinical experience relevant to the post. To have completed a variety of rotations and acquired core skills relevant to the post (Respiratory, Surgical, Orthopaedic, Neurology, Frailty). Experience of a wide range of clinical rehabilitation areas in an acute setting. Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team. Evidence of participation in a Respiratory on-call or twilight service. Knowledge of clinical governance. Experience of service development and evaluation.
