Job Description:
Job Overview: The Transformer Testing Engineer is responsible for leading and managing the transformer testing department within the organization. The role oversees the testing process of transformers as per required standards, ensuring compliance with industrial safety and regulation standards. The engineer will manage a team of engineers and technicians, coordinate testing activities, and provide technical expertise to support organizational objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Team Management:
* Recruit, train, and develop a high-performing team of engineers and technicians.
* Assign responsibilities, set performance expectations, and conduct regular performance evaluations.
* Develop departmental goals, objectives, and action plans.
1. Technical Management in NABL Lab:
* Plan for internal NABL audits of the testing laboratory.
* Coordinate with QCIN of NABL Portal.
* Control documents of internal and external origin.
* Analyze customer satisfaction and organize internal audits.
* Define NABL objectives and targets.
* Conduct management review meetings.
* Identify training needs and organize training.
* Approve Management System Manual and Test Reports.
* Coordinate with certification bodies for all technical and certification issues.
* Arrange procurement of test equipment, consumables, and other materials needed for testing transformers.
* Supplier selection and evaluation as per procedure.
* Overall in charge of technical operations of the testing department.
* Initiate and review corrective and preventive actions.
* Conduct routine/type and special tests as per National/International standards and transformer testing procedure manual.
* Review and approve test reports.
* Prepare training needs identification and evaluation.
* Prepare competency matrix of test personnel.
* Conduct quality reviews of quality objective targets and take actions to meet targets.
2. Testing Process:
* Conduct routine, type, and special testing for 132kV class transformers.
* Stay informed about changes in regulations and update testing procedures accordingly.
* Develop new test report formats and test procedures as per IS/IEC/ANSI.
* Handle customer inspections, clarify doubts, manage complaints, and prepare test reports.
3. Quality Assurance:
* Implement quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
* Address and resolve any quality issues that may arise during testing processes.
4. Equipment and Resource Management:
* Manage and maintain testing equipment, ensuring it is calibrated and in proper working condition.
* Allocate resources efficiently to meet testing demands and deadlines.
5. Technical Expertise:
* Provide technical support and guidance to the testing team, assisting with complex testing scenarios.
* Provide technical support for new product development teams to achieve desired results.
* Stay up-to-date with advancements in transformer technology and testing methodologies.
* Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings within the department.
* Develop and manage the department's budget, including resource allocation and cost control.
6. Customer Complaint Management:
* Investigate and analyze customer complaints and field return failures.
* Identify and analyze defect trends observed during manufacturing processes by timely plotting QA matrices and Pareto charts.
* Implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) by conducting root cause analysis (RCA) of internal production line failures and field failures using 5-Why and Fishbone Diagram.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
* Extensive experience (typically 10 years) in transformer testing, with a strong understanding of testing methodologies and standards.
* Previous leadership experience, including team management.
* In-depth knowledge of electrical transformer construction and testing processes.
* Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations (IEEE, IEC, NEMA).
* Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
