What will I be doing as an apprentice?
As a Laboratory Testing Technician apprentice you'll be working in a laboratory but not as you know it! Be prepared to get stuck in and use your hands as you'll be working on numerous projects to test fasteners. Working alongside some of our existing apprentices and fellow peers, you'll have the support required to get to grips with the testing role quickly and will learn on the job as you go, and you'll also have the opportunity to work independently and on your own initiative. Being an apprentice is hands-on, so you'll get the chance to learn things you might otherwise not have experienced in a university or college environment.
As a member of the Element laboratory team, you'll push construction materials to their limits ensuring that they're safe and reliable to use. These materials will need to exist for many years to come without expensive maintenance, without damaging the structure and without endangering human life.
Main duties and responsibilities:
* Carrying out conformity testing of building products especially screws, nails and other fasteners
* Producing test certificates in accordance with our laboratory's accreditation
* Occasional use of our wood workshop machinery (training will be provided)
* Ensuring that Health and Safety procedures are followed
* Following procedures included in the quality management system
* Being responsible for the organisation and cleanliness of the timber laboratory
What could the future look like?
After completing your Level 3 apprenticeship there are many pathways available to you at Element and beyond. Here are some examples of how your career may progress:

Through practical training on the job, you can look forward to a range of potential career paths in industries such as manufacturing, construction, engineering, aerospace, automotive, or research and development. There is a growing demand for skilled professionals who can ensure the quality and reliability of materials used in various sectors. This apprenticeship program also serves as a stepping stone towards a rewarding career in laboratory testing, with the added opportunity for the apprentice to become a registered Science technician (RSci Tech). This apprenticeship can also help pave the way for further educational and professional advancement such as our Level 6 Bachelor of Science (BSc) Apprenticeship, enabling you to take on more specialised roles or progress into leadership positions.
