We are looking for a dedicated Senior Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic Specialist Surgery and Acute (SSA) OT Team as a clinical OT lead within the Major Trauma, Plastics and Emergency Department specialities at Leeds General Infirmary. We would love to welcome an enthusiastic therapist who is ready to step into this role and embrace the challenges and opportunities of working within an Acute NHS Trust environment.
The post holder will be encouraged to develop innovative ways of working, utilising proficient leadership and management skills. Providing the team with a supportive and flexible working environment is vital. Evidence of management of complex patients with occupation at the heart of your treatment and management strategies is essential.
Support for the post holder will come from regular supervision with the Clinical Service Manager and through being part of a diverse, inclusive and unified staff network. The Trust also provides access to Mental Health first aiders, Freedom to speak up champions, and Unison representatives. Continuous development is offered through appraisal, internal learning, and external training. The post holder will be part of the wider SSA OT team which offers further learning opportunities in a variety of clinical areas.
Main duties of the job
1. Work as a specialist practitioner managing the clinical delivery of the Major Trauma Centre, Plastics and Emergency Department OT service.
2. To lead clinical specialities, managing staff and resources to meet service standards and needs of patients.
3. To provide support for the wider SSA team based on your knowledge, skills and competencies in order to meet changing service demands and priorities.
This post is 0.8WTE and offers great flexibility, including occasional weekend working.

Job responsibilities
1. To work within the Occupational Therapy Service, leading coordinating and developing effective intervention in a specialist area, in conjunction with the Head Occupational Therapist Clinical Area and colleagues.
2. To manage autonomously a clinical workload at a highly specialist level: assessing and treating patients and maintaining associated records.
3. To apply evidence based knowledge of the specialist clinical area, acquired through in depth experience and/or academic study to specialist post graduate level or equivalent.
4. To provide Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to patients with diverse, complex and multiple pathological presentations.
5. To adopt a key role in clinical risk assessment and discharge planning.
6. To take responsibility for organizing and carrying out home assessments, leading and coordinating discussions with patients and carers, health and social care professionals and community agencies to plan and implement effective and safe hospital discharges.
7. To provide an evidence based service to the specialist clinical area.
8. To provide a patient-focused service following the Occupational Therapy process (screen referrals, assess and plan treatment programmes, implement and evaluate treatment programmes, monitor and plan discharge) using Occupational Therapy core skills.
9. To represent the Occupational Therapy Service and act as a patient advocate in multi-disciplinary meetings, with external agencies such as Social Services, Housing, Intermediate Care Services.
10. To manage, supervise and delegate to Occupational Therapists within the team.
11. To manage, supervise and delegate to Occupational Therapy Support Staff.
12. To supervise and educate Occupational Therapy Students.
13. To assist with the general caseload of the team as service needs dictate.
14. To act as a highly specialist Occupational Therapy Resource for colleagues, carers and patients.
15. To lead and participate in team and service developments including audit and research.
