We are looking for a Global Medical Communications Lead who is strategic, collaborative, and results-driven to join us in our Medical Communications, Medical Education and Information team, based in our headquarters in Brussels, Belgium or in Slough, UK.
About the role
Knowledgeable in the field of AI (artificial intelligence) applied to communication, medical education and learning, and with a natural attitude in building and maintaining long-term trustable relationships, the Global Medical Communications Lead is responsible for understanding the strategic needs and translate them into actionable medical scientific communications plans. Pragmatic and solution-oriented, she/he has a deep understanding of the different communications environments and channels along with their characteristics, nuances, and risks.
Who you’ll work with
In close collaboration with the PIM (Patient Impact Maximization) Operations Team and in alignment with the ACE (Amplify Customer Experience) Medical Team, the Global Medical Communications Lead is accountable for ensuring the key communications messages for the assigned asset(s) will reach the intended audiences in a timely manner and according to standards and regulations by means of the most appropriate tool and channel(s).
What you’ll do
* Lead and be accountable for effective and impactful medical/scientific communications planning and execution over the life cycle for the assigned asset(s) with adequate/minimal supervision, ensuring alignment to the Global Medical Strategy and the cross-functional teams within UCB
* Explore feasibility and advocate for innovative ideas driving the change towards sustainable ways to communicate assets’ key messages along with UCB values making standing UCB out of the crowd
* Creating and fostering a culture of integrity, collaboration, shared ideas and of a forward-thinking environment
* Participating in Medical sub team meetings under the leadership of GMIL (Global Medical Indication Lead) to contribute to the development of Medical Strategy
* Leading the Scientific Communications Strategy and consequently ensuring alignment of an integrated communications plan with the overall Medical strategy
* Working in close collaboration with the PIM (Patient Impact Maximization) Operations Team and key stakeholders/countries, ensuring effective co-creation of customer-facing
* Managing appropriately the allocated budget and prioritizing according to the needs of a fast-paced environment
* Periodically reporting on metrics on key objectives and on advancement of projects
* Manage assigned projects and oversee vendors to ensure development of scientifically accurate materials that aligns with the Scientific Communications Platform
Interested? For this role, we’re looking for the following education, experience, and skills
* Master’s Degree, Ph.D. / PharmD, preferred
* At least 5 years of experience in global Medical Communications, Medical Information, Field Medical, Scientific Communication agency.
* Experience ideally in neurology/ neuroinflammation/neurodegenerative, immunology (dermatology/rheumatology/bone health) or genetic diseases (rare- ultra-rare disease experience preferred)
* Excellent understanding of and ability to master traditional and modern communications techniques and channels, matched with excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong formal presentation skills
Experience working in a matrix organization: strong ability to build strategic partnerships with cross-functional teams.
* Knowledge of genAI tools and proficiency in their use
* Work efficiently with pragmatic approach to challenges, able to deal with agile frameworks and programs to deliver results that maximize patient value
* Skilled at promoting a culture of sharing and collaboration, able to efficiently control, and continuously adapt the project plan, with the appropriate level of details, to achieve the project objectives
* Maintains extensive knowledge of the relevant therapeutic areas, diseases, stakeholders, patient journeys and unmet needs, clinical practice, research and development, regulatory, market access environment, and the competitive landscape; applies this knowledge to develop differentiated patient solutions
* Successful track record of implementation of scientific communications programs
* Willingness/Ability to travel up to 30% at times is required
* Excellent written and spoken English (other languages an asset).
