The post would be suited, but not exclusively, to a committed candidatewishing to pursue an application for Certificate of Eligibility for SpecialistRegistration (CESR). Candidates who choose this route are well supported withinthe Trust. Application fees and up to 2 SPA S can be awarded for protected SPAtime.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrantmultidisciplinary team, develop your special interest and psychiatry practicewhile having the best of what Devon offers. This is a 10PA post with no on callresponsibilities. However, we welcome candidates wishing to work less than fulltime.
Main duties of the job
The postholders responsibilities willbe to provide psychiatric services to adults with Intellectual Disabilitiesunder the care of the community-based North and Mid Devon Intensive Assessmentand Treatment Team (IATT). In addition, we operate an In reach inpatientmodel of care across Devon requiring you to work, as required, with patientsfrom the North and Mid Devon area admitted to the, Additional Support Unit,Exeter, supported by their RC. Regular supervision will be provided by Dr ReenaHaq, Consultant Psychiatrist in Intellectual Disability (1.0WTE), who alsoworks across both teams. The post holderwill have a commitment to collaborative working and actively supporting andliaising with other health and social professionals and agencies as well ashave good relationships with mental health services.
This post is currently vacant due to the previous substantivepost holder commencing higher training.The post issubstantive and there is no on call responsibility.

Person Specification
Research
* Interest in maintaining up to date clinical knowledge base.
* Enthusiasm to contribute to research on site. Publications in peer reviewed journals. IT skills.
Personal Skills and CPD
* Ability to communicate with clarity in spoken and written form. Flexible approach, keen to accept new challenges. Punctuality/good time management. Honesty and integrity. Well organised. Commitment to process of CPD. Ability to organise own learning/CPD.
* Ability to critically examine practice. Registered with Royal College of Psychiatrists for CPD.
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent. GMC registration.
* Membership or Affiliateship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent. Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
Experience
* Has completed at least four years full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of these years need to be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or the doctor has equivalent experience and competencies.
* Experience at SHO level or above of working in the field of intellectual Disability Psychiatry.
Practical Arrangements and Physical
* Meets professional health requirements. Ability to be mobile across a geographical area in a timely manner and in accordance to service need.
* Access to appropriate transport to fulfil the post.
Clinical Skills and Knowledge
* Excellent clinical skills in interviewing and physical and psychological assessment of patients. Writing comprehensive, clear medical notes. Ability to manage crises and act independently. Ability to manage potentially violent and disturbed patients. Confidence in assessing and managing physical health problems and emergencies. Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983.
* Up to date CPR training. Ability to apply psychological models to practical situations. Evidence based knowledge of forensic psychiatry. Knowledge of clinical risk management. Knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation.
Clinical Governance
* Commitment to involvement in on site programme of clinical governance.
* Knowledge of evidence based practice, clinical audit and involvement of users and carers in service provision.
