Senior Project Engineer
Siemens Mobility have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer to join our expanding Rail Infrastructure Electrification Power Conversion Engineering Team in York, UK.
Siemens Mobility Limited leads the rail, road, and logistics markets, aiming to connect diverse transportation systems for efficient movement of people and goods. Our team excels in delivering Power Conversion projects, integrating innovative technologies into the UK railway to reduce electrification costs and support decarbonization with proven global solutions. This role offers the chance to lead cutting-edge engineering in railway electrification for UK and international clients, in collaboration with our Engineering Team in Germany. As Senior Project Engineer, you’ll drive project success, ensuring safety by design, technical authority, and cohesive team integration across electrical, systems, and software engineering to achieve unified goals in project bids and execution.
You‘ll make a difference by
* Being responsible for the technical solution, you will be a technical expert and point of contact for the internal project management team and the customer.
* Leading all technical interfaces, technical co-ordination, and technical meetings.
* Technically managing a team of multi-discipline hardware (including primary and secondary systems) and software engineers to ensure all engineering work can be provided in a timely manner during the acquisition and execution stages of the project.
* Ensuring effective CDM design compliance. Responsible for Siemens Mobility Safe by Design principles and ensure that the same is implemented and followed throughout the project by all relevant partners.
* Ensure that all customer functional and technical requirements are fully incorporated into the overall technical design solution (i.e., requirements management / traceability).
* Chair design reviews / workshops and technical interface clarifications between project areas.
* Develop and supervise agreed divisions of responsibility between internal and external parties related to design engineering.
* Moderate, decide, and conclude engineering specific issues between subject areas, liaising with project engineers, subject matter experts and bid / project managers to find resolution.
* Configuration management and change control management, implementation of design baselines / freezes.
* Management of design risk assessments (DRA), hazard and safety analysis (HAZID), HAZOPs, and other safety by design activities and provide technical support to the Bid / Project Manager where requested.
Where called upon, the post holder would also undertake the role of Contractors Engineering Manager (CEM) and/or Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) in accordance with the requirements of Network Rail regime and shall be able to demonstrate competencies associated with NR/L2/INI/02009.
Your success will be grounded by
* Having a Bachelor or Masters degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or equivalent experience. Member of the IET or equivalent Professional Body; Chartered status is desirable.
* Being conversant with the latest HV, MV and LV plant standards and technologies within the Electricity Transmission, Distribution or Railway industry using Power Electronics technology in HVDC, FACTS, Railway Static Frequency Converters, Rolling Stock traction and auxiliary power converters projects.
* Having in-depth knowledge of power system engineering, substation primary and secondary design, MV plant, and HV plant operation and maintenance; including health and safety, applicable standards, specifications, regulations, industry custom and practice.
* Understanding of the substation electrical and civil design and construction industry practices including the relevant standards and procedures.
* Having customer focus: capability of changing perspectives and adapting strategies and actions to meet the needs of the dynamic environment.
* Having the ability to lead an international, globally dispersed Engineering team to achieve the highest performance results.
* Having flexibility and willingness to be present for limited periods on sites, at customers and 3rd parties around the globe as per project needs.
* Solid understanding of Safety by Design, and Constructability requirements of substations and understanding of CDM regulations, especially discharging Designer duties.
* It would be beneficial if you already have prior Project Management qualifications and experience, Chartered Engineer status, Chartered Manager status, experience of continuous improvement projects, LEAN engineering experience, resource management experience, experience as Principal Designer Representative.
