Staff Nurse - Head and Neck SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care)
University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust
Our Head and Neck SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care) service has now been running successfully for over one year. This has created an exciting opportunity for a band 5 to support the service. They must be a highly motivated individual with a good understanding of managing capacity and flow, and skills and knowledge in caring for patients on an emergency pathway. Head and Neck (ears nose and throat - ENT, and oral maxillofacial - OMF) experience is desirable, but not essential, as training and education will be given.
The Head and Neck SDEC is a shared SDEC space, with spaces for 7 patients and 2 Treatment Rooms. Admissions to the department come from GPs, through our Emergency Department, Urgent Treatment Centre, and ENT and OMF 'hot' clinics.
The successful applicant will have at least one year's experience as a Registered Nurse, be an excellent communicator and have good knowledge and expertise of managing and caring for acutely unwell patients. You will work clinically, with support from the SDEC team (ENT Advanced Nurse Practitioner, OMF clinician and Health Care Support Workers), assessing patients, administering prescribed treatments, monitoring clinical conditions and escalating concerns. You will have a key role in ensuring the Trust's Internal Professional Standards are met, supporting flow and capacity, and providing patients with a positive emergency care experience.
