Principal Planning Policy Officer needed in Enfield Paying £26ph Ref 1465649
The Principal Planning Policy Officer plays a key role in delivering statutory planning functions, including the Local Plan, place-making, regeneration, and infrastructure planning. Reporting to the Planning Policy Manager, the postholder provides expert planning policy advice, leads key policy projects, and ensures that corporate objectives align with national, regional, and local planning frameworks.
Responsibilities include:
1. Managing external consultancies (with budgets typically between £50k-£200k per project)
2. Supervising planning officers
3. Representing them as an expert witness at public examinations
The role requires extensive knowledge of:
1. Local Plan preparation
2. Policy evaluation
3. Infrastructure planning
4. Development management
Candidates will ideally have a degree in Town Planning (or a related field), be eligible for RTPI membership, and demonstrate strong project management, analytical, and communication skills. The postholder also plays a vital role in community engagement, corporate strategy implementation, and ensuring compliance with planning legislation, health and safety policies, and safeguarding requirements.
