Job Title: Archivist & Librarian
Reporting: Peter Nicholson
Salary: £11.44 hourly rate
Hours: 2-3 days (15/22.5 hrs) per week on variable contract. (flexible/negotiable)
Background
The Extensive DHT Paper and Photographic Archive detailing the rich and complex history of Leonard & Dorothy Elmhirst’s utopian experiment in rural, economic, cultural and educational regeneration is largely held in the South West Devon Heritage Centre (SWDHC) archives in Sowton Exeter. It is a well-managed service with an on-line catalogue enabling Eventbrite bookings for academic researchers and the public alike to visit and view items.
The archive digital database is however out of date and less than user-friendly. It is also not comprehensive across other parts of DHT’s private collection which includes paintings, ceramics, sculpture, books, furniture, and metalwork.
DHT is seeking a part-time Archivist & Librarian to oversee and care for the extensive paper, photographic, book, and music collection owned by the Trust. The job will be closely aligned to those of both the curator of the private art collection of pictures, ceramics, sculpture, and furniture and those staff working in the management of the soon-to-be-open Elmhirst Heritage Centre & Gallery.
The role will comprise a multitude of interesting responsibilities and challenges and will be a key role in shaping the future management of both physical and digital academic and public access to the collection.
