HGV Motor Vehicle Technician

At Totally Local Company, an opportunity has arisen for an HGV Motor Vehicle Technician who possesses a professional demeanour, sound judgement, and integrity to join our Fleet team. What you'll be doing in this role
1. Assist the Workshop Manager and the team to maintain the company’s infrastructure regarding our fleet and customers; ensuring operational and roadworthy vehicles to fulfil our contractual and legal obligations.
2. Ensure that fleet vehicles are maintained to the highest standards in line with the manufacturer’s standards, DVSA, Operators licence undertakings, and legal guidelines as per the required schedule set out by the company or contract.
3. Contribute to the safe, lawful, efficient, and professional operation of the Company’s and customers’ vehicles and plant.
4. Ensure that all health, safety, and welfare requirements of staff within the post holder’s responsibility are properly met.
5. Carry out scheduled maintenance and defect repairs on the company's fleet of vehicles, plant, and equipment, including light and heavy vehicles, specialist vehicles such as mechanical sweepers, refuse vehicles, plant, and trailers.
6. Conduct safety inspections, services, and PDI’s to manufacturers' standards in line with the required inspection criteria, as outlined in the DVSA (HGV/PSV) inspections manual.
7. Prepare and submit HGV vehicles to DVSA approved test facilities for annual MOT testing.
8. Carry out MOT and Taxi testing including QC on all vehicles at our MOT station, including private and light commercial vehicles.
9. Operate mobile response breakdown service to attend offsite breakdowns and effect necessary repairs.
10. Plan and coordinate work and repairs with minimal direct supervision.
11. Assess damage, check availability of and order necessary parts, arrange collection/delivery of parts, and carry out effective repairs to a high standard.
12. Maintain computer and written records of all jobs from start to finish, including repairs carried out, parts used, start and finish time, total hours taken, time VOR, etc.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
1. A minimum of three years technical/mechanical experience of working in an HGV workshop.
2. Health and Safety experience.
3. Good knowledge and understanding of mechanics, electrics, and hydraulics systems.
4. The ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, management, user department representatives, suppliers, and contractors.
5. Experience in the use of Tranman or similar systems.
6. Motor Vehicle Technology (Heavy) City and Guilds – Part 2 and 3 or equivalent (NVQ Level 3).
7. Component overhaul specialist skills (Pneumatic Welding, Hydraulics, Electrical systems).
8. Full clean driver's licence Class B + E.
9. LGV Driver's Licence Class C.
10. Enthusiastic and flexible; willing to work evenings, bank holidays, and weekends if required to meet the needs of the business.
