We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Product Owner to join our busy technology team in Bristol. The Product Owner will be responsible for leading the development and continual improvement of IOP Publishing’s Content Management and Dissemination Platform. This platform is critical for managing and distributing IOP Publishing’s extensive journal content to a global research community, ensuring that research published through IOP Publishing is widely accessible.
What you’ll be doing:
The Product Owner ensures that the capabilities, performance and quality of the platform satisfy the needs of researchers, customers, partners and colleagues, whilst aligning product strategy with IOP Publishing’s business goals. This role closely collaborates with and supports the Content Management and Discovery Manager, who sets the vision and strategy for content management and discovery services within IOP Publishing. The Product Owner ensures that the platform’s strategy and roadmap align with and support this vision and strategy.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Providing product leadership, setting direction and exemplifying positive behaviours.
2. Collaborating with stakeholders to capture and validate needs.
3. Maintaining the product roadmap, writing business requirements and refining the backlog.
4. Collaborating within the product team to ensure smooth and effective delivery.
5. Planning deliveries and reporting on progress, costs, issues and risks.
6. Nurturing effective inter-team relationships, alignment, coordination and consensus.
7. Communicating product strategy, timelines, status and successes.
8. Defining and reporting against product success measures (KPIs).
9. Contributing to broader management activities within the department and company.
For this you’ll need:
Professional qualifications
1. Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
2. Certifications in Product Ownership, Business Analysis, or similar is desirable.
Knowledge and previous experience:
1. Proven experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or similar role, working within an agile software product team.
2. Solid grasp of product ownership and advanced requirements analysis skills in a technical product environment, proficient in translating business needs into detailed technical requirements.
3. Good understanding of software development processes and methodologies, including Agile and Scrum.
4. Familiarity with tools such as Jira and Confluence.
5. Publishing industry experience is considered advantageous.
