We are looking for an experienced and proactive Inventory & Planning Manager to take charge of stock management and inventory control for our Waterloo business based at Vantage Point. As a key member of our management team, you’ll work closely with departments such as Production, Engineering, Quality, Finance, and Supply Chain to ensure smooth, accurate stock operations and timely production fulfilment. Position Summary In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to drive improvements in stock control, reviewing processes, optimizing store layouts, and implementing effective material booking systems to support our business’s future growth. You’ll play a crucial part in enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of our inventory processes, ensuring we stay ahead of production needs and support our continuous development. Main duties and responsibilities Lead Materials Control & Production Planning : Manage the end-to-end process of materials management in the factory, ensuring raw materials are accurately tracked, consumed correctly, and components are back flushed in a timely manner. Optimize Stock Management : Drive initiatives to improve stock accuracy, reduce off-site storage and handling costs, and manage the storage layout by classifying materials into ABC categories. Collaborate Across Teams : Work closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain to ensure smooth operations, identifying and addressing risks to the production plan to meet on-time delivery goals. Champion Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement : Advocate for Lean principles, including the use of Kanban, and lead improvement initiatives to drive performance. Coach and develop the team to align with these practices. Lead the Epicor and MES Systems Optimisation : Take charge of optimising the use of the Epicor and MES systems, collaborating with IT and other support functions to address any system-related needs. Ensure High Standards of Safety : Foster a culture of safety within the team, ensuring that equipment such as forklifts is used in accordance with guidelines and properly maintained. Supplier Performance & Stock Shortages : Liaise with the Purchasing team to improve supplier delivery performance and prioritize stock shortages to meet customer demand. Manage Staffing & Team Development : Oversee staffing levels, training, appraisals, and attendance to meet business requirements while providing development opportunities for team members. Monitor & Report on Materials & Planning Performance : Compile and present regular reports on all aspects of materials and planning, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions to drive efficiency. Drive Slow & Non-Moving Goods : Collaborate with Finance, Product Management, and Sales to manage slow and non-moving goods and ensure the correct stock profile is in place based on demand. Manage the Stock Counting Process : Lead the monthly stock counting process and annual audited stock take in collaboration with the Finance team. Foster a Culture of Professionalism : Act as a role model for operational management, ensuring high-quality decision-making and maintaining professionalism in all interactions. Essential Experience & Qualifications Extensive experience in leading a Materials and Stores Management team, driving efficiency and accuracy in inventory control. Proven background in a high-mix, medium-to-low volume manufacturing environment, with the ability to adapt to varying production demands. Strong experience in a Make-to-Order, highly customized production environment, ensuring flexibility and precision in production planning. In-depth knowledge of ERP systems and the ability to leverage them for operational improvements. Hands-on experience with both push and pull systems, along with the successful implementation of Kanban methodology to streamline processes. Expertise in Demand Control, including managing trigger points, optimizing batch sizes, and determining Minimum Order Quantities (MOQ’s). Strong understanding and experience in Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) processes, including the development of accurate forecasts to align production and demand. Fluent in English, speaking and written Desirable Experience & Qualifications Broader experience in procurement and manufacturing leadership, with a proven ability to drive operational success across various functions. Experienced ERP system superuser, with a deep understanding of order processing, production planning, scheduling, standard costing, bills of materials, and demand management. Capable of guiding and supporting the efficient flow of information throughout the entire manufacturing workflow, from order intake to delivery logistics. Expertise in Bill of Materials (BOM) and product configuration, ensuring accurate and efficient product design and assembly. Familiarity with MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) and the ability to optimize their use within production environments. Strong knowledge of materials traceability and goods inwards inspection processes, ensuring compliance and quality throughout the supply chain.
