Transcriber - Colchester
For over 40 years, we have been tape-recording the memories of local people about life in Colchester & District. We have memories of life before, during and after the First World War, life in the 20s and 30s, and much about the Second World War. We even have a few memories from Queen Victoria's day.
We now need volunteers to listen to the tapes and type the contents of each interview into WORD files. Some interviews last for several hours and may involve specialist subjects, such as doctors and nurses.
This role offers the pleasure of hearing personal memories from the past, contributing to Colchester's rich history. The words you type will be read by people for years to come.
Where does this opportunity take place?
Transcribing takes place from your home. There is a short introductory session. You need a computer with sound capabilities. If you do not have one, we may be able to loan you one. We hold coffee mornings for all our volunteers to meet up. Our main archive is based at the University of Essex’s Library, where it may also be possible to work.
What are we looking for?
Ability to use a computer and reasonable keyboarding skills (two-finger keyboarding is allowed).
