Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated & compassionate Staff Nurse to join Oak Ward, a 15-bedded male admissions Medium Secure Ward at the Hellingly Centre. Oak Ward provides assessment & treatment for patients with acute & complex mental health needs, offering a structured programme of therapeutic groups & leisure activities to support recovery. As part of the wider provider collaborative network, we follow the Secure Recovery Model, using evidence-based strategies to promote patient participation in their care & treatment. We are looking for registered NMC professionals, including newly qualified nurses & preceptees, who are passionate about delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. The successful candidate will work within a supportive MDT, contributing to clinical assessments, care planning, & therapeutic interventions. They will also be responsible for maintaining relational security, ensuring a safe & therapeutic environment for patients & staff. In this role, the Staff Nurse will support the day-to-day running of the ward, take on key nursing responsibilities & play an active role in the management of clinical & risk issues under the guidance of senior colleagues. Main duties of the job As a Staff Nurse, you will play a vital role in delivering safe, structured, & therapeutic care for patients with complex mental health needs & forensic history. Key Responsibilities will include: Effectively manage the shift & participate in regular meetings to review & monitor patients' care plans. Provide nursing perspectives in MDT meetings, tribunals & CPA reviews. Administer medication safely, monitor its effects & manage any side effects. Conduct risk assessments & implement appropriate risk management strategies. De-escalate challenging behaviours & manage aggression using approved techniques (e.g., PMVA). Support patients in their recovery, focusing on rehabilitation & reintegration. Maintain accurate & up-to-date documentation while ensuring confidentiality in line with GDPR & safeguarding policies. Advocate for patients' rights while balancing risk management & public protection. Take on the role of Primary Nurse, maintaining therapeutic boundaries & ensuring junior staff adhere to best practices. Supervise junior staff & contributing to service improvement initiatives, policy development, & audits. Complete incident reports & participate in post-incident debriefs to enhance learning & service development. Working Pattern: You will be required to work flexible shifts, incl. Long Days (07:00 - 19:30) Nights (19:00 - 07:30), weekends & bank holidays as part of the rota.
