An exciting opportunity has been created for an experienced senior nurse to join the haematology team at UHNM to positively impact health care provision for young adults with inherited red cell disorders and related conditions.
This part time role, with flexible hours to include Fridays, will be based at Royal Stoke University Hospital.
The appointee will join a proactive, supportive team who are looking for a nurse who is a strong communicator, flexible, organised and driven to excellence.
UHNM has a close working relationship with our haemoglobinopathy coordinating centre in Birmingham and the wider red cell network.
Main duties of the job
After appropriate training/support, you will be expected to independently review and manage patients with inherited and acquired red cell disorders and other related conditions, with support from other members of the team.
Routinely this will include patients with sickle cell disease (SCD), thalassaemia, rare inherited anaemia, haemolytic anaemia (congenital and acquired) and haemochromatosis.
Reviews will include scheduled clinics and ad hoc reviews via telephone and in person.
This clinical role will be complemented with opportunities and expectations to partake in quality improvement projects, service development, national and local audit.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will have undertaken degree level study, have health assessment qualification and experience working with patients with inherited or long-term conditions.
Ideally the appointee would have non-medical prescribing and blood component authorisation qualifications. If not, a willingness to undertake both these qualifications is essential.
You will need to be able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and independently, use your own initiative, be organised and able to cope with unpredictable demands, willing to learn and reflect.

Qualifications
* Educated to degree level
* Health assessment qualification
* Portfolio of certified/accredited professional development activity undertaken in relevant areas
* Evidence of higher level study at Masters Level; Alternatively working knowledge and experience at an equivalent level
Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience
* Experience working with patients who have inherited or long-term conditions
* Ability to prioritise workload in response to service need
* Ability to work autonomously and be accountable for own actions
* Able to utilise initiative to solve problems and develop the service
