Key Responsibilities
Main Purpose of Job:
The primary purpose of this role is to serve as an expert and principal advisor in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, applying extensive knowledge of theories, practices, and design matters to resolve critical issues. The individual will collaborate with Senior Leaders, business SMEs, existing department-level AI / ML resources (where applicable, e.g. Research) and IT Business Partners to reimagine the future of our business, creating unparalleled business value through AI.
This role involves developing and executing the company's AI and ML strategy, aligning it with business goals, existing and new department-level initiatives, and industry trends. This role also involves addressing significant and unique complex issues across multiple business areas, devising solutions sometimes based on limited information and exercising judgment. The implementation of these solutions requires a long-term perspective, impacting Immunocore’s strategic goals and objectives across functional areas.
The successful candidate will ensure the strategic application, integration, and development of machine learning and AI technologies across our business, where some departments have made significant progress and others are just starting. This is a hands-on role and does not currently have direct reports.
The individual will contribute to the development of strategies across multiple areas, providing input into functionally strategic decisions that may influence the overall company strategy. They will translate business segment strategy into functional plans and guide their execution. Erroneous decisions could critically impact the functional area and the company’s overall success.
Frequent interaction with senior management is required, often involving negotiations on significant matters. The individual will reconcile multiple stakeholder views to drive business results and act as an influential and strategic leader within the organization.
The role also involves regularly interacting with and influencing key stakeholders across the business, directing and leading activities across multiple areas, and leading cross-functional teams or projects with notable resource requirements, risks, and complexity.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement a comprehensive AI strategy in collaboration with senior leadership.
* Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration within the team and across the enterprise, establishing Global IT as a strategic partner and change catalyst.
* Oversee the execution of the AI strategy to ensure seamless integration of AI capabilities into existing operational workflows.
* Expand automation, RPA, Intelligent/Autonomous Agents leveraging Data, AI/ML, GenAI, and the latest technological advancements to accelerate business agility and performance.
* Lead and drive strategic initiatives to integrate AI technologies into Immunocore’s operations and development processes.
* Develop custom LLM-based tools and workflows tailored to organizational needs, leveraging technologies like fine-tuned GPT models or domain-specific LLMs (e.g., BioGPT).
* Ensure regular reporting to IT and Immunocore senior leadership on the progress, opportunities, challenges, and ROI of AI implementations.
* Develop frameworks for managing data quality, governance, and integration with LLMs to ensure ethical, compliant, and effective AI use.
* Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and data privacy standards, including HIPAA, when designing AI solutions.
* Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in AI, data science, and life sciences.
* Build relationships with external AI/biotech partners, vendors, and academia to bring in fresh insights and best practices.
Education, Experience and Knowledge:
Essential Qualifications:
* Advanced degree in life sciences, engineering, computational science, or a related field, with significant industry experience.
* Typically requires a Bachelor's degree and 16+ years of related experience; or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
* MBA or equivalent is preferred.
Experience & Knowledge:
* Deep digital, data, and technology skills with an understanding of technology trends and best practices in digital platforms, microservices, data, AI/ML, GenAI, cloud computing, and automation.
* Exemplary understanding of AI/ML and its potential in the pharmaceutical landscape.
* Proven track record of building and deploying AI solutions at scale in production environments.
* Strong business acumen and the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
* Experience working in or with the Life Science industry, preferably Biotech.
* Proficiency in a major programming language (Python, Java, Scala, or similar).
