We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Administrator to join our clinical trials team based across both Worthing and St Richards Hospitals for a secondment/fixed term opportunity. This exciting position will provide the ideal opportunity to develop clinical research experience and build on existing administrative and managerial skills. Professional development opportunities will be supported and encouraged, including leadership training.
The post is 37.5 hours per week, weekdays only. Part time hours/flexible working would be considered.
Main duties of the job
We are ideally looking for someone with a broad and varied NHS hospital administration background who also has experience of line managing other team members. We need someone who can provide a high standard of administrative and secretarial support to the Research & Innovation Department ensuring a professional, efficient and confidential service at all times in order to ensure that the directorate runs as smoothly as possible.
The post holder will work closely with our teams of clinical research nurses, midwives, research governance facilitators and administrators working across a diverse portfolio of clinical trials. They will also need to work autonomously and will be responsible for implementing administrative processes including management of Trust meetings, and minute taking. Responsible for ensuring progress on meeting actions are tracked to be delivered within agreed timescales, dealing with matters often as directed by the Research & Innovation Senior Management Team.
The post holder will also be responsible for promoting research within Trust departments, and supporting colleagues and local investigators to deliver high quality research activity to support patient care. The role requires flexibility and the ability to work as a team member and under own direction. The post holder will be required to work across both Worthing and St Richards Hospitals with occasional travel to other sites if needed.

* To be aware of the environment within which the Research & Innovation Department operates so as to ensure the effective and appropriate use of their time through prioritising appointments, dealing with correspondence and dealing with senior staff from the NHS and other organisations.
* Make and receive phone calls, taking messages, dealing with telephone and email enquiries appropriately and sensitively and professionally.
* Forge and build collaborative relationships with other departments and staff in the Directorate, to work effectively in managing priorities.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Good standard of general education Secretarial Qualification, minimum NVQ 3 or RSA III (Advanced) or equivalent. Diploma or equivalent experience.
* Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) Shorthand Being able to type a minimum of 50WPM.
Knowledge, Training and Experience
* In depth experience and knowledge of the working practices of an NHS Organisation.
* Recent experience of working as a PA/Secretary/Admin Team Leader.
* High level skills in administration and personal assistant skills including (but not limited to) minute taking for operational meetings, coordinating meetings and managing the administrative needs of a department.
* Knowledge of Caldicott and Information Governance.
* Knowledge of dealing with complaints.
* Understanding of the NIHR and Research within the NHS.
Communication and Relationship Skills
* First class interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively with a wide range of at all levels and seniority.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
